Alltel Launches Automatic Photo Archive Service

In a press release today, Alltel along with software solutions developer Ontela have announced the launch of a new type of real-time photo archiving service.

The service, called PhotoCopter works by installing software on a compatible Motorola handset, and everytime a picture is taken with the camera, a copy of the picture is sent to a supported photo gallery page such as Photobucket, Flickr, Blogger, and Snapfish, as well as being sent to an email address or directly to the users computer.

This application aims to address the single largest compaint about cameraphone usage, which normally means taking the picture and having to go through tedious steps to move the picture from the phone to an  online photo album, sending it to multiple contacts, or even printing.

The service is available now for $2.99 a month for unlimited image transfers and is compatible with the Motorola V3m, V3a, V9m, and ROKR.
