Alltel has launched its version of the LG Rumor on Sprint which it calls the Scoop.
The featureset is identical to the Rumor with a sliding QWERTY keyboard, microSD expansion slot, Bluetooth, media player, 1.3 megapixel camera, and support for the Celltop user interface. The phone is available now for $99.99 after a new 2 year agreement before an additional $40 mail-in rebate, bringing the total to $59.99.

So i just got this phone, and i bluetoothed ringtones over from my old phone now i can’t set them as the ringer when i go to my audios it says EMPTY but i have them in my audios under multimedia…… ANY HELP? on how to use them as ringers! ?>
Audio files transmitted via Bluetooth cannot be assigned as ringtones on the Scoop. You have to download them over the web… there are many free upload tools on the web that facilitate this for you.
Any further help with this, even without Bluetooth? Any way to assign ringtones from a MicroSD card that came from my previous phone that was not an LG? I’m not to “phone” savvy when it comes to this.
Christopher – can you give a web adress for the tools you mention? I’m frustrated because I would like to use mp3s that I have as ringtones. Is this not possible?

What about users that are Alltel wireless, instead of sprint? Any other websites?
That should work for both Alltel and Sprint users, unless Alltel’s version of the firmware has something to deny the ability to download ringtones over-the-air. Since the scoop uses BREW instead of Java, that is a possibility.

Here a helpful forum site for the LG AX260 or Scoop. It will explain how to load mp3 on your phone and allow the phone to recognize them as ringtones. It’s not too difficult. I had the same issue and just got my phone a week ago. The ringtone issue was driving me crazy.

A good place to get the SD card is Staples or some Krogers’. The default Pass for all cellphones is 9999
The Instant Messaging feature uses standard text messaging fee’s but if you have unlimited text messaging then theres no charge
The best place to get MicroSD is http://www.newegg.com they got 2G for 12 bucks before shiping. I have made a lot of purchases through them and they ship fast. Waiting a couple days beats 20 bucks for 1G in the store.

It does perform rather well on the Sprint version. Not the best phone, but certainly a good one in terms of reception.

oh and abouth the microsd card you should be able to have a choice to move almost anything on your phone on to the card then you put it into your phone and they should be there or just move it via bluetooth. both ways should work if not you have a bad microsd card
I have the scoop and bought the usb cable and it came with a disk that has backgrounds and ringtones on it, does anyone know how to get them from the disk to my phone. I know how to put my own ringtones on there just can’t figure out how to move the ones from the disk to my phone. if anyone is interested I bought my cord from ebay just type in lg scoop in the search. I also downloaded wavepad and made my own ringtones. alltel gets enough of my money but no more buying ringtones from them and they sound so much better than the ones from alltel.

So if you can’t Bluetooth songs to your Scoop and apply them as ringtones, you have to download them from the web, from your phone? Is that correct? Also, I Bluetoothed pics from my computer to the phone and it wont let me apply them as Picture IDs but it doesn’t allow me to, anyone know why or if there’s around that?
Also, I’ve noticed that when someone sends me a long text, and I want to review it later on, it only shows me half of the text, why can’t i see the whole thing?

Ok this is what you have to do……………….you need to have picture/video text messaging in order to do this! Have someone you know with ringtones to send them via text and save the ringtone to your phone not your memory card. Once the ringtone is saved then go to the shuffle folder go into the ringtone list folder, then press add then you should be able to set your ringtones. The only bad thing is your ringers ring randomly you cant set certain ringtones for certain people! You have to have at least two ringtones in your shuffle. And remember to change your save options in your settings folder to “Save to phone” if you have a memory card otherwise it will not work!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh yeah and if you are bluetoothing ringtones in order to set it as ringtones you have to send the ringtone via text to yourself and save it to your phone in order to use it as a ringtone.

I bought the LG Scoop for my daughter. One month and one day after she had the phone the screen went blank. We got a new phone through the mail exchange program. She has not even had the replacement LC Scoop for a week and already the screen is going blank again. Anyone else have this problem?
I just got an LG Scoop and was going to download ringtones from the alltel website and I keep getting a message that says:

i cannot seem to get the mini SD card to work with the phone. I put the Sd card in the phone and if i hold it in really far it will load my stuff but the card does not stay in by itself, i got the sd card in january so its fairly new and the phone keeps rejecting the card and pushing it out, is this a faulty phone or am i just not understanding something?

As with many new devices–heavy on toy type features—camera/music/etc but the ergonomics are left to happenstance—the speaker–you know other than the mic the most important feature of a communication device–IS ON THE BACK OF THE UNIT—SO EVERYONE AROUND ME HEARS THE TRANSMISSION BETTER THAN ME !!!!! so Bluetooth is gonna make so money if i want easy use of this thing.

My 12 yr old has the Sprint version (Rumor) and she loves it, only problem is that she is getting frustrated with me cuz I can’t get her ringtones on it!! I am very computer savvy, I can do just about anything with a computer and a phone, but for the life of me I cannot figure this out. PLEASE HELP!! I have tried BitPim, I have tried the info (very vague) that came with the USB Cable, I have even tried Rumkin (which sends it to an “other” folder which I cannot pull the tone from) and still no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just got the AX260 and it’s always roaming. how do you turn this feature off.
To Start you can simply add ring tones to your Phone with bitpim you need the “USB” So you can save the tone to your phone, and DRM Lock it if you wish, to make it safe,
if your SD card does not work go buy a new one!, Geeez, then go “My Computer/SD? or what,ever your SD is under, you will see folders, My-Music upload your stuff and slid the SD Card back into the phone.,
Don’t give me that bitpim don’t work, it will just make sure you tunr off your phone……
Well How Do i DRM Lock The custom ring tone i just made,
with this Daniusoft Digital Music Converter
one more thing go buy a ring tone the right way, use bitpim to take the tone off your phone and onto your PC use Daniusoft Digital Music Converter to unlock it, Then Make copys! now you have the tone file type, & you can use a sound software that i know you have on your PC, or Linux Computer w/e save it lock it back up and save it to your phone then restart your phone omg what you know it work;s

I have a friend who just got the scoop and it seems to roam all day everyday and we read the manual but it doesn’t tell us how to take the roaming off. So if there is anyone who can help us please let us know if it is possible to take the roaming off or is that something she has to deal with and will she be charged for roaming even if she isn’t in a roaming area.

I had the same problem and if the “R” is flashing at the top you are not roaming, despite after every call it will say roaming. Now if the “R” is not flashing then your are roaming. The reason it flashes is because you are using another tower but it is approved by your provider to use it with out any charges
My booklet says that the phone will hold up to 435 messages. The phone memory status says it will go up to 300 and says it’s only 34% full, but when I get to the actual inbox I only can store 100 text messages. Is there any way to fix this problem? I want to be able to save more messages on my phone.
The picture messages don’t make a difference. If i delete those they don’t make more room and when it says it’s 100% full I can still get pictures.
Alltel Corporate HQ has told me that they are blocking non-purchased ringtones from their phones due to the DRM from the music industry. Haven’t been able to find out if all cellphone companies are doing this.

If you are pressing buttons or taking a call and you hear sound coming out of the back speaker.. I hate to say its so simple, but press the button with the speaker icon [above the green TALK button]
You’ll now notice the sound is originating from the small dark slit directly above the screen. That is the actual call speaker.

I bought this phone a little over a month ago. I’m absolutely disgusted with it. When I text using the key pad & i hit the backspace once it deletes my entire text message, it turns off on its own, calls people on its own, the earpiece is popping, my buttons are hard to press, 75% of the text messages i send/receive never get to the other person or me…one of my best friends got this same phone about a week before me and hers is doing the exact same things, only her screen is blank 99% of the time
I’ll definitely be making a trip to Alltel tomorrow, and I will not leave without a different phone. Every LG I’ve ever had has been a problem. Motorola all the way.
So I have the latest Bitpim and USB drivers and firmware, but I am still unable to use mp3s as ringers. I followed the instructions on howardsforums word for word and my phone was not autodetected as “other CDMA” and the “dload” folder was never listed no matter what I would set the phone as. So am I doing something wrong or does the Bitpim trick only work on older versions of the phone programming?

I have herd there is a lot of problems with the ringtones and the photos are bad and the phone might always say you are roaming and sometimes the backspace is not good. But is this phone good for a 13 year old girl and if not what phone is?

so i got the scoop and now it wont let me bluetooth by ringtones from my old phone to the scoop, it says it is a duplicate but i dont have it on my phone yet. my sister got the same phone but she is not having any problems like i am having. everything else seems to be working fine, the bluetooth is on and all, but i cant transfer my ringtones, then as all people, i cant set them as a ringtone. this phone has it’s good and bads i guess. thanks to all.

this phone is great for a 13 year old i actually am turning 14 tomarrow and i have the lg rumor from sprint and i havent had a problem with it.. and ive seen the lg scoop in person its the same phone but had different setting on it and so it may have a few bugs but come on it just came out all phones do this once in a while and u just gotta wait but if the screen is always blank ur phone has a manufactoring problem all u have to do is take it to alltel and they will replace it for free… this phone rocks all the way

So I tried this phone when I decided to extend my Alltel contract. I’d heard all the bugs hadn’t been worked out of it yet so the only reason I agreed to try it was the 15 day free trial. Well I had to take the first one back because one of the buttons on the front wasn’t very stable. My local store gave me a brand new replacement which made me happy. It lasted less than two days before the inside keyboard started messing up. While trying to text it would miss every other or every third letter I typed and was so slow that I had to use the front to do any texting (which to me defeated the purpose of the phone) I ended up taking it back today and deciding to just go back to my trusty Strobe cause it’s never given me any issues. Hope this helps someone.

In response to “alltel customer”. I’m not going to say whether or not you should get this phone. Sadly it’s the only real txting phone they offer anymore so there’s really no choice if that’s the kinda phone you want. I would definitely suggest getting insurance on it though and if they don’t bring it up to you, ask about their 14day free trial.

I could send picture messages to my email account from the phone, but all of a sudden it refuses to send pictures messages to anyone. why?
I just got this phone yesterday, and I was trying to charge it, but nothing’s happening.
The charger is plugged in the right direction, but it’s hard to get in (I’m not even sure that it’s “actually” in so much as jammed as far as it can go without breaking anything) and there’s no sign of the phone charging. Is this a problem with me or the charger?
Also, there was another charger that came with the accessory pack, but I have no idea what it does. It has the USB port symbol on one end and then plugs into the wall, but as far as I can tell, there’s no corresponding jack on the phone….
Cannot send pictures . . Since I got my Scoop about a month ago maybe less I have only been able to successfully send 2 picure messages ( only after trying about 15 times) My phone has no problem receiving picture messages or even sending/receiving text messages just sending the pictures. my son has problems with his keys locking, so he has to actually has to shut the phone off & turn back on. The problem happens sporatically. Anyone else having these problem? He had it less than 30 days. Tried once to take it back to Alltel but because they could not duplicate the problem would not replace it. We are going to try one more time to get it replaced before the 30 days.
Responding to “Bon” I would definitely get it back into your Alltel store before the 30 days is up. If you have access to another corporate store in your town I would try them – I know that’s what I ended up having to do. The second one I had (after having to return the first) was having a key problem and I knew it was just gonna get worse. If you don’t get it taken care of early they are very unsympathetic. You could also try calling the 800 number.
i have had this phone for 2 months, and the lcd in the screen went out today. i have taken really good care of the phone, the 2 times it was dropped were on grass or carpet, and it is kept in a cell phone case when in my purse. the screen randomly just died.
i have had alot of other problems with this phone as well. would not recommend it at all. its not worth the money.

My old phone was so much easier to use in this department. Also how can I change the quick buttons on the front of my phone. Like the up/down/left/right buttons to what I want them to be!!! I’ve had a lot these problems but the majority of them have cleared up. Only one I noticed I still have is when texting, it gets really slow like I’m not even touching the keys as I type so it skips them.
I figured out it only does it when I have the volume on silent, 1 beep, or vibrate.
My brothers girlfriend also had problems with sending pictures and they took it back to the store and the guy did something with the access apps.
Took him 5 minutes and he fixed it. Definitely take your phones back and get them fixed.
This is a really great phone, I have had no problems with it I have had it for about 5 months. I love the keypad and all of the people having problems with the sceen or the phone turning off, have probably damaged their phone by dropping it or water damage.

I think it’s pretty rude for you to assume that just because other people have had bad luck with a phone you love, it means that they in some way are irresponsible with phones. I had the first Scoop for less than 24hrs before it started messing up. I replaced it and started having a whole new set of issues. It’s wonderful that they phone is so great for you, but maybe next time you could leave out the back-handed dig at the rest of us who’ve had honest issues.

I have had nothing but problems with my LG scoop. I have been through three of them now. in effort to try to get rid of one problem another on arises with a new phone. My current issue is that I can not send or receive pics from anyone. Alltel said originally it was a problem with the program that Alltel runs for the scoop. Since the program has been fixed – my phone still does not work. Why can’t I ever have a normal phone! My friends always say the reception is bad too. I’m not in the woods.

just to stop everyone from freaking out… could you please check to see if your problem has already been asked and answered before you post it? the only problems i have had with the phone is that yeah… the ringtone thing (but im buying a cable soon! =)) and the whole ‘skips keys when texting thing’. it may not be perfect but is definately a great phone! i would recomend it to anyone… =)

I am considering getting a Scoop but was told by our local Radio Shack owner that the phone does not send pic messages. He claims his daughter has one and that it absolutely is not a phone that is set up to send pics to other phones. Is he uniformed?
When I first got my LG Scoop it worked perfectly and had no problems, but then i dropped it in water and had to get it replaced. I payed the $50 for a new one, and the new one started to act up the first day I had it. When texting on the full keyboard, and it takes about 3secs for letters to appear and often skips letters. I was then informed that it only does it when I have the volume on silent, 1 beep, or vibrate.

If you want your phone to text normally but only vibrate you have to click so that the volume is up to 1bar and then right click on “vibrate” and set the phone to vibrate only…and then to Ring when you want it off Vibrate…it’s a little more time consuming when it comes to adjusting the ring volume…but in the long run its worth it if your a frequent texter.

If you are looking for some place to make your own ringtones from mp3 files for free, I found the perfect spot. http://www.phonezoo.com All you have to do is sign up (its free trust me) and then just upload the song and pick which part of the song you want to play as the ringtone. The only thing is that it sends the it as a sound and charges you as a text to your phone. Even still, it have made about 10 ringtones and text alerts (SMS alerts)…Try it out

iv’e had mine since march. iv’e had no problems with it until about a month ago. i can’t slide my open any more, and if i do the screen goes blank meaning it goes WHITE. and before i pressed a whole lot of buttons and slammed my hand on the top of it while it was open and it would usually come back. but now nothing happens. if your going to get it, it’s not worth. don’t waste your money.
I got the LG scoop in August and luvd at first but now it seems like I have problems with it. Whenever I use the keypad i will press the back button and it will erase the whole message so I have to start all over agin. Then it seems like its slow. I do like it tho becuz of the good pics it takes and how loud it gets. i’m just sayin this sorta a good phone but with some problems. oh ps it doesn’t have very much memory so you might have to buy a memory card.

a text message alert, and I was looking on Youtube, and a man was doing a review on his LG Scoop, and a text message came threw, and instead of the Default Text Message Alerts, it had like music type thing going on.

I got the scoop thru alltel….i was a little disappointed abt the bluetooth thing not workiung for ringtones but i use this website http://www.myxer.com and download my ringtones for free…..it tells u that ur phone wont beable to download but it does its jus annoyin to have to go thru the steps all the way but its worth it in the end…it seems to only use ringtones if they lock to the phone…other then that i love the phone b/c im a texter and it works perfectly for me! hope that helped!
Tiffany, the problem you are having with the Scoop I am having as well. I didn’t have it for a week before this occurred. I recomend taking the phone back to where you purchased it from.
Okay. So I have this phone. And I wanted my own ringers REAL bad, and I don’t have no cable mcthingy, so I had to use bluetooth.
Using the suggestions on here, I managed to get a ringtone I want! This is how.
1 – get the file to your phone via whatever method. I use bluetooth (you can use makeownringtone.com to create the file – mega helpful!)
2 – SEND THE FILE TO YOURSELF. Seems silly, but do it
3 – once you recieve your text, SAVE THE FILE – TWICE. Two different names.
4 – Go to “media” and then “shuffle.” You can now choose those two different files as your shuffle list, and therefore, that one song will play all the time as your ringer!
Any questions, e-mail me, but there you go! It should work. Enjoy!
I have had the Scoop for about 2 months now and I’m having SO many problems with it. My screen will randomly go blank while I’m texting. Today alone it has turned itself of 3 times. I wasn’t able to send or receive picture messages 2 weeks into having it. Maybe I just got a “lemon” of a phone but I’m really wishing I hadn’t gotten it!
Skimming though some of the messages, I see I am not the only one having problems with ringtones. With this phone, can you assign ringtones to specific callers? I have 13 days left to decide if I want this phone. If I can’t assign ringtones to different callers, it is going back.

i’ve noticed people stating that their keypad doesn’t always work. I’ve noticed the same problem on my phone, then noticed that when my keypad stopped working my roaming icon was fluctuating IN TIME with my keypad not working. I’d be texting fine and then the (always) blinking roaming icon would go solid, and my pad would freeze, then start blinking again and i’d be ok for like 2 seconds, then freeze again. My girlfriend got the exact same phone the exact same day and we live together and her roaming icon hasn’t come on ONCE since the first time we turned them on. answers?

Hey i was wondering if anyone would know a cheaper place than Alltel to buy this phone for Alltel, if i were to buy it would be 80 bucks, My cousin has this phone and it works pretty well she got the dark blue one, I wouldn’t mine the Orange one but which ever color is fine with me. I’ve also been look for some cheap Alltel phones without a contract, cuz i would like to tranfer the number from one phone to this one i’m looking into getting. I’ve seen some of the stuff that people have said about this phone and I can say that my cousin’s phone works pretty well for beening almost 6 months old.

I recently purchased the LG Scoop from AllTel. I have a flawless phone at this point. Does anyone know if there is a chart or Excel Spreadsheet online that is very specific on the Connect Packs? The features offered in many cases are two entries, i.e., GPS, TV, Weather. Hard to tell what you have included in the package. Sometimes features indicate that you will be charged but in reality you will not be if the feature is in your connect pack. Anyone with info on this – would greatly appreciate it.

Do not buy the scoop no matter what. It has soooo many problems i cant stand it. i would rather have some cheap phone than the scoop. the battery last like less than a day and the buttons fall out easy. DO NOT BUY THE SCOOP!
Okay i got the LG scoop as of June of 08. My problem is when i will be texting or using my phone for other things it will just shut off on its own. Does anybody know why this is happening. I love the phone its great, but it’s really starting to bug me when it shuts off.
I got my phone about a week ago and when I go to audios and click on options it does not have the options set as; however my co-worker does. Another that doesn’t work, in the book it says you can go to Shuffle the Ringtone List, Options, set ringtone, but when I click on List it says, “Ringtone List folder is empty”. So now it can see my audios and ringtones and apparently it can see it’s own ringtones? I saw your work around on ringtones at Howard Forums. Does it have a mac version? Also, why wouldn’t my phone see it’s own ringtones? I know I have the right microsd card because the person at Radio Shack knew which one to pick that was compatible.

Got a new phone after no one could understand me on the old one * now I can’t use this one unless it is on the charger. It just dies the second I take it off – Alltel says I will have to buy a new batt and that is such crap I didn’t break it their phone did!
I bought an LG Scoop phone that lasted two weeks until the screen went out – the screen looks like a zebra – white background with a few wide black lines – almost looks like some sort of pattern. Took it to the Alltel store in Roswell, NM and they were less than helpful.
I see others have had this problem, but haven”t run across any posted solutions. Easy to assume that its broke, but it failed after two weeks of normal use. The Alltel store said it was probably dropped and they refused to help me.

I have an LG Scoop and I don’t get any reception. I see back in 2008 they were a good phone as far as reception was concerned. What happened??? And when I text, it stops I have to shut it and open it back up to get it to work. I have had the phone for almost two months and I rarely use it. My husband who has a razr gets full reception and when I look at my phone there is none.
The Alltel store said I probably dropped it in water and it has water damage. I know I did not drop it in water. I live one hour from the Alltel store and they want me to come up there. If it does have water damage it was not from me.
HOW WOULD I KNOW IF IT HAS WATER DAMAGE? There is a sticker on the phone near the battery that is white with red x’s.
Its a good phone for texters. Thats about all I can say about it. Sure it has a music player and you can put in a memory card but you cant use any of the audio from the memory card for ringtones. The one and only way I knew how to add ringtones you wanted to this phone was by using the website Ventones.com but now suddenly its no longer working for my phone. So if you want to add ringtones of your choice you have to buy them or try to get people you know that have some you like to send them to you IF it works. Im kind of dissapointed in this phone now and Im about to get a new phone. But its great for texting. Thats the only plus.

White with red X’s is normal. When your phone is submerged in water, those X’s will smear, and typically turn the entire sticker red.

My son has the scoop. Both him and I got new phones on 9-11-08 and since then, he has been through 3 scoops! The store has always sent a replacement phone, due to his battery port not charging. I’m sick and tired of running to the alltel store and complaining about this. I am going to try and see if they can just upgrade his phone to the banter. There is no reason why we should keep fussing around with this scoop that causes more headaches on us! My daughter has had her banter now for just over 2 months and no problems yet! Hoping for a good visit today at the store!

LG Scoops are bad phones! Have had problems with one that is seven months old. Not only that but the water damage indicator is on the detachable phone back. So take the back off your phone, place it near something that might get a drop of water in just the right place and your warranty is null and void. Regardless that the phone it’s self did not come into contact with water, only the detachable back. I am feeling very ripped off right now!

This phone, the LG Scoop, is the biggest piece of **** that i have ever owned. my tracfone worked better than this. MY phone turns off on its own, it doesnt charge right, the screen doesnt flip right sometimes. And the keyboard is retarded. It doesnt keep up with you when you type. If you are thinking of purchasing this phone, i advise you not to. The Ringtones dont transfer correctly.

The Scoop SUCKS. This is coming from someone who had to put up with the stupid POS for 2 whole years. I FINALLY traded it in for an enV3 and there is NO comparison. The Scoop is THE worst phone on the cellular phone market hands down. Problems current Scoop users can look forward to: No personalized ringtones, unless you’re willing to pay 4 dollars through the company + $10 download fee for a low-quality tone, charger port literally falling out of the phone after a while, screen freezing up and acting up, LED lights on the QWERTY keyboard burning out, phone randomly shutting down, entire text messages erasing when you attempt to delete one or two characters, battery pack loosening, and that’s ALL within the first year. My advice would be to RUN back to your provider and exchange or return the phone AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

This phone was awesome the first time i got, but after a lil wile with it, it got pretty boring! I mean it doesn’t allow you to use any of your ringtones for your message tone! I hated that, but got over it. Then when i got into taking pictures, I couldn’t! The camera is terrible! 1.3?? They could have done better. And sometimes while I’m texting on the qwerty keyboard it doesn’t recognize many of the buttons i’ve pressed, so i end up with a kizzilion mistakes! So ofcourse I try to erase it. If i press the erase button more than once sometimes it erases ALL of what i have written! I have already had THREE replacementsfor this phone! Every time I’ve need a replacement was because the screen would start to blink and sometimes go completely black without turning off! It was terrible, so Pantech Crux, here i come!
