The phone is not active until you start to use it. It has been assigned a number, that’s all. So, yes, you need to buy some airtime from somewhere.
That’s why AT&T auto-adds a $25 prepaid card to your shopping cart. You can use a different way of funding your AT&T account, but that’s the easiest to get started.
You can buy GoPhone airtime by calling 611, going online to refill, or by visiting a local AT&T, Best Buy, or Wal-Mart store.
What is the minimum airtime that I can purchase?
AT&T’s lowest refill amount is $10. But, it expires after 30 days.
We suggest $25, as it is the lowest amount with a 90 day expiration period.
The $100 refill expires after 365 days.
