AT&T Raising SMS Rates

attlogo AT&T is poised to raise the rates of plain text messaging another $.05 to $.20 per message on March 30, 2008.  Multimedia messaging will also be affected by a similar increase of $.05 to equal $.30 per message.  Subscribers with current messaging plans will not see the increase as this change only affects those on a pay-per-use basis.  This comes almost exactly a year after their previous rate hike.

Leave it to the US wireless providers to lean on messaging and ringtone sales to pad their coffers all the while driving customers away from casual usage. Am I the only one that remembers when an SMS on three of the four carriers in 1999 was 5 cents per message?
