From now until January 3rd, Best Buy will be selling the iPhone 3G at a $10 discount over Apple and AT&T.
This marks the first time a third-party reseller has discounted its price for the iPhone 3G below the sales price of the aforementioned retailers, and will also undercut Wal-Mart by $7.88 once that retailer launches iPhone sales on the 28th.
The 8GB model is now selling for $189.99 and the 16GB model for $289.99 with the $30 setup fee being waived in favor of free Geek Squad setup as a consequence of slowing sales and declining demand attributed to the economy. RewardZone members will also receive double points for the purchase.
What is not known is whether the retailer sought Apple’s permission to sell the device below MSRP, or if the temporary price cut is a preemptive move against Wal-Mart and their significantly larger retail footprint.
