Coffee Anyone? Ads.

I know a lot of people get irked whenever I talk about advertising. Well, I get irked when advertising isn’t optimized. It has become a gigantic monkey on my back, and tonight, I will be spending most of the night fixing that.

You may already be seeing ad changes in placement, but that’s just the start… our ad server is just booted up, and waiting to be configured.

To me, an optimized site is a happy site, and advertising is a key part of keeping PhoneNews.com optimized, so we can feed those triple-digit increases in bandwidth bills.

11:50 PM - Quantcast deployed. Don’t even look at the rankings for a month or two… Quantcast needs tracking code to provide accurate data.

Safari is rejecting some of the changes… investigating…

1:10 AM - OpenX is putting the right code in the wrong places… sigh.

1:11 AM - Fixed. One location deployed… many, many more to go.

1:25 AM - Google AdSense channel data updated. Now adding Google data to the ad server.

2:00 AM - Had some fun configuring weights… but now that’s out of the way, back to plugging in code.

2:10 AM - For some lovely reason, one of the Google ads refuses to load. And I wonder why I waited to do all of this… not.

3:00 AM - A bit sidetracked, and a bit of progress. Capping systems are now in-place. This will mean a sharp increase in ads that cater directly to what you’re interested in.

3:25 AM - The news and blog are done… on to the forums.

4:00 AM - Forums are done.

5:00 AM - Encyclopedia is done. The code had a couple of bugs which are now in the hands of the design team… but they’re barely noticeable.

5:40 AM - And, it’s done! For now, at least.
