Just to give you a little idea of how much of a pain Mobile Web is, I’d like to give you today’s headache:
So, we rolled out a few weeks back an updated mobile version of PhoneNews.com. Looked great… had a few bugs, but the worst of all… it looked terrible on iPod touch and iPhone. [...]

1) We install WordPress and the new look and feel. Then, we spend a good night sleep on configuring everything to be just-right.
2) We import the news from a copy of our Joomla news archive. We’ll have this taken care of before the upload.

After a lot of consideration, the decision has been made… we’ve moving to WordPress. WordPress has grown where Joomla has stagnated. Granted, we haven’t had a lot of luck with this… choosing PHP-Nuke, which at the time was a great choice, then to Joomla, also a great choice for the time.

We will be shutting down the ancient copy of Sprint PCS Info that we have left active since 2003. This really isn’t necessary anymore, all the articles are on PhoneNews.com. We just kept it online for the search engine caches, and for posterity… just to see how far we’ve gone.

We’re currently testing a possible return of full-article coverage in RSS. Previously we had to pull it because of bugs. It will be deployed today on the PhoneNews.com Blog, and if testing goes well… we’ll be deploying it on the main PhoneNews.com RSS feed for news.

One of the things we have started really focusing on with the Phone Encyclopedia is usability. And, one thing that we’ve found that many have trouble browsing back-and-forth on the Encyclopedia. Granted, the underlying technology doesn’t help us there, so we’ve come up with ways to make it easier.

Busy weekend. New look improvements, starting a massive giveaway, and oh, new videos. But, not just new videos, new and improved videos! We’re now delivering 5.1 surround sound when available. We updated the main site’s interface a bit to improve readability. This should hopefully breathe a bit of new life into the look, before it is replaced down the road.
