Mobile Ads Deployed

We have begun rolling out mobile ads on the mobile-formatted version of PhoneNews.com. Starting right now, when you go to PhoneNews.com on your phone, you’ll get the news… with a little ad above it.
Having a large mobile user base, we realize some of you think that the mobile version of PhoneNews.com should stay ad-free. However, [...]

Server Upgrade Complete

We’re now powered up with 5.6 GHz total of NetBursting power. The upgrade was going to be pushed over to next week, but we burned some midnight oil and got the job done.
Giveways will resume, and we’ll go back to juggling only 12 things at once.

This Weekend

This weekend you’re going to see a considerable amount of content… we’re working on a bunch of reviews (slowly getting out of the backlog that we’ve accumulated). Also, Verizon will be sending along a LG VX1000 Voyager, which should arrive tomorrow, so we’ll be squeezing in a review of that one top of everything else.
Our [...]

Major Server Upgrade Announcement

We’re going to be performing a major server upgrade today, that will hopefully handle the expected increases in load that we’ve been seeing. We will be upgrading to fully-dedicated hosting on a brand new server. The underlying software won’t change however, so you’re just going to see a massive performance boost.
What is the new server? [...]

Users, Logins, and You

While right now it doesn’t appear very necessary, we are using a unified login system between Joomla and IP.Board. This was used for when we required you to be registered to post comments… which we no longer require
Thanks to our forward-looking approach to code, the transition to WordPress will not affect you, and you shouldn’t [...]

Giveaway Delay

Last night, we ran into a bug with our comment system. We contacted the team that writes that piece of software, and they’ve sent us a fix. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to test it until tonight, and thus, cannot put up a new giveaway until that has been done.
You can continue to post comments [...]

Today’s New Giveaway…

Due to factors beyond our control, the next giveaway in our 2-month giveaway series will be delayed until later tonight. We are still working on optimizing our server to handle the increased server traffic.
Next month, after our WordPress transition, we will start sampling new dedicated servers to better handle the load. We’re really just tweaking [...]

Focus on Other Parts of the Site

One thing we haven’t done a good job of, is promoting the other parts of PhoneNews.com. Specifically, that includes the Forums and Phone Encyclopedia.
We’re going to improve on this, and we’re going to make a commitment to providing weekly round-up postings on both parts of the site, right on the news feed. Now, granted, most [...]

And Catching Up… with Demand…

If you’re having trouble accessing PhoneNews.com today, we apologize. Our BlackBerry 8130 Pearl review has gained quite a bit of attention…
This has shown us three things:
1) People like reviews when the device hasn’t been out for a day.
2) Our servers need to be upgraded to accommodate.
3) Our reviews need to be upgraded to make this [...]
