Server Downtime & Updates
We are experiencing some issues with the server, which we have pinpointed and are resolving. We have also updated some SEO subsystems which were deemed critical to update.
WordPress 2.5 is currently slated for being deployment on Sunday.
Sorry for being short on this post, the first version of it got vaporized when the server decided to [...]
Woefully Unpreparred
It’s midnight. What do I have packed? My iPhone, and my Mogul. Yes, I am woefully unprepared for the show, and I have to be up at 6:30 AM to go to the airport.
Thankfully, I thought this might happen (procrastination is a beautiful thing), so I’m arriving at the show the day before… the day [...]
No, not this week
WordPress 2.5 just came out. And, as you might expect, we won’t be upgrading this week. Hopefully time will permit next week, but the hangover of being out-of-town for a week may push it back a little longer.
However, I do encourage all of you who are not packing for a week long expo to update [...]
Coffee Anyone? Ads.
I know a lot of people get irked whenever I talk about advertising. Well, I get irked when advertising isn’t optimized. It has become a gigantic monkey on my back, and tonight, I will be spending most of the night fixing that.
You may already be seeing ad changes in placement, but that’s just the start… [...]
Email Outage
We had noticed a decline in email over the past 24 to 48 hours, and our server team just found the problem. Bottom line, if you sent us an email, a news tip, or any feedback in the past 48 hours, please re-send it. Sorry for the problem but we have fixed it so it [...]

As you’ve heard many, many times, we’re moving to a consistent look-and-feel for all of PhoneNews.com. That means the news, forums, encyclopedia, and blog all have the same look and feel, but are running on different software platforms.
That’s a good thing.™ But it has some problems. Namely, in terms of searching. When you go up [...]
Getting Zero Respect Since 2003
Did the Wall Street Journal cite internet reports that nailed the reporting of WiMAX on Sprint for the past three years? Nope. Did they report where we got every part of that story right? Nope.
Did we expect that? Yup. We report to the most informed readers in the wireless industry. And we certainly plan to [...]
Goodbye, AdBrite
We rolled out what would be our second trial of AdBrite. That trial will end tomorrow. It would end today, but I said I wasn’t going to work today.
There are two main reasons why we are ending our trial. First, is poor performance. We wanted AdBrite to suppliment our advertising schema by replacing our ads [...]
Forum Security Updated
We’ve rolled out a minor security update to the PhoneNews.com Forums. It also fixes some Daylight Savings Time issues that some users may have been having.
Our redesign of the look-and-feel for the Forums were a bit sidetracked (that stalled around when our latest wave of DDoS issues occurred, and the resulting server moves and firewall [...]
CTIA Is Just too Short
Yet another day with hundreds of emails asking for sit-downs, interviews, yadda, yadda… at this year’s CTIA.
One of the great measures that we have of the success of PhoneNews.com, is just how much the industry is reaching out to us for interviews and discussions. No, this isn’t just the media spam list (every trade show [...]
