Design Changes - Articulation & Progress
One problem I’ve found in managing a design team, is textual communication. It’s difficult at times to explain changes you want to visuals over email.
An example of this is with our new look and feel (which isn’t on the blog yet, we’re going to wait for it to go final… but is on the News side of things). We’re integrating RSS links into the top navigation. Sounds easy right? Well, not so much.
We finally worked out with the design team how we wanted it to look on scratch paper. Problem is, when implemented, the RSS icon is constantly orange. We want it to be platinum except when hovered over. The design team thought we meant that to mean the News button shouldn’t stay orange (when in the news pages) except when hovering over it too. And, I’ll admit, I can see how that would be interperted.
Bottom line: It has taken a lot of work, but the new look-and-feel for PhoneNews.com is almost done. And, it will have RSS implemented in a nice way that doesn’t get in the way.
I realize there are some issues with the current code, most notably that articles appear as one massive paragraph. We will be deploying a fix for it tomorrow… so you don’t have to read our Macworld Expo coverage in one gigantic block.
