DNS Rollover
No, it’s not as fun as Rollover minutes. As mentioned previously, we’ll be changing servers, and that means a DNS change. No downtime is expected, but you may not be able to access the forums until things sync back up. The good news? Faster page loads and we’re paying less money.
Update: The Knowledge Base is offline, we have isolated the issue and will have it back online in a few hours. There are a couple of other minor issues, but should not affect usability.
Update 2: Unfortunately, one minor bug with URLs on the Knowledge Base is preventing us from switching to the new server. Problem is, because of even more technical problems, there was no way to know this before throwing the switches, updating the DNS servers, and switching everyone over to the new server.
So what now? Well, we’re going to move everyone back to the old server. We really apologize for this, we know it’s transparent, but it does impact our ability to report news in real-time. We will be burning even more midnight oil to get everything transitioned… again… seamlessly… later tonight.
For the techies out there, we are running PHP5 in a non-CGI environment, and MediaWiki’s rewrite-rules require Path_Info. Our new servers ran PHP as a CGI, breaking path_info. While some have crafted RewriteCond rules to bypass this, we’ve spent hours testing them… none of which work with our new servers.
