Forum Update, Newsletter Imminent

On a roll from Macworld, we’ve upgraded the forums to IP.Board version 2.3.4, bringing it up-to-date. The patch was mostly a bug fix release, but also had some performance improvements.

But, we have something much bigger planned for tonight and tomorrow. The first PhoneNews.com Newsletter will be emailed out to the almost 9,000 registered members on the PhoneNews.com forums.

Why are we putting out a newsletter now? It’s a good time to do so, with the re-launch of our news, and the near-final Phone Encyclopedia flexing its new muscles… We want to let folks that may have forgotten about PhoneNews.com know what we’re up to. Being five years old this coming June, PhoneNews.com has years of members, many of which stretch back to long before we even considered the PhoneNews.com name.

The newsletter will be once a month, but we’re tinkering around with a daily news blast email that will keep you up to date on all-things-wireless. More details on that once we get a bit closer and decide to commit to doing one or not. Running a daily news email is much more resource-intensive than a monthly newsletter, we have to line up staff and profit systems to make it worthwhile…

And yes, the daily news emails will be opt-in… we’ll make it easy for you to sign up though.

Update: We apologize if you have gotten multiple copies of our newsletter… we realize you may have gotten up to four copies. This was a problem with our server providers, which put our email program in an infinite loop. We’ve stopped the sending, but unfortunately… we’re going to have to fire it off one more time (since some never received one copy to begin with). We apologize in advance for those of you that are going to get a fifth copy of it…
