Handling AT&T
So Cingular has blown a good $10 billion round-trip to go from AT&T Wireless, to Cingular, to “Wireless from AT&T”. With everything else in AT&T branded with the service after name, don’t be shocked if “Wireless from AT&T” slowly turns into AT&T Wireless. Just don’t expect the leadership to suddenly revive the consumer-friendly nature of the older AT&T Wireless (not that we’re saying the Cingular people aren’t friendly… they just never respond to a single request for comment to anyone in the media, that’s all).
Okay, enough ranting. We have to switch all references to Cingular over to AT&T. We’re going to do that, but for consistency we’re going to also re-sort Legacy AT&T Wireless news items over to the AT&T category (which you currently consider the Cingular Wireless news category). We’re only doing this to prevent people from being confused between two news headers; “AT&T” (current) and “AT&T Wireless” (archive).
It should make sense once we implement everything. The Phones Section will refer to carriers as “AT&T (Cingular)” (for existing phones), and “Legacy AT&T Wireless” (as it does already for AWS phones). Future phones will be referred to simply as “AT&T”. Archives are always difficult to update in these branding changes (especially with the worst name juggling in history), but we think we have the best plan to react to the change for now and into the future.
