Introducing PhoneNews.com Video!
Today, we’re launching a new service called PhoneNews.com Video. The service is simple; video you want, without the poor YouTube quality the competition provides. We’ve seen even high-end, professional competitors of ours start to dump video on YouTube. Sure, it’s easy, it’s fast to do, oh, and it’s also the worst quality on the web.
We at PhoneNews.com hate FLV (Flash Video, or, as you may know it, YouTube-quality-video), we’ve blogged about it, we’ve ranted about it. We love open standards like H.264, 3GPP, and MPEG-4. And, PhoneNews.com Video will deliver all three.
So, what can you expect from PhoneNews.com Video? Any video we think is relevant to you, the phone enthusiast, user, or someone who is just plain interested in phones. You’ve asked for commercials, well, you’ll get them. We’ll be putting out commercials in HD quality whenever possible. Oh, and it’s a good time to note, we’re pushing video all the way up to H.264 at 720p High Definition.
As with any service, we’ll be testing and tweaking it as we go along, so you can expect the quality to only improve from here. We’re also testing quality scenarios… so please give us feedback in the comments as to what you think.
To access the service, just hit the all new “Video & Software” tab. That will take you to the new section. And, we’ll be posting new video right on the newsfeed, so if you’re reading that daily (or tuned in via RSS), you won’t miss a single video.
One final note, don’t rush straight for the HD video if you know your computer won’t be able to handle it. We test our video on 2.8 GHz P4’s and 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo’s… so if your system is slower than that, we can’t guarantee playback. We suggest you use QuickTime to watch the video, but if you have an H.264-hardware-accelerated system already… use your player of choice.
