iPhone & PhoneNews.com
PhoneNews.com looks great on the iPhone. Every section renders on Safari perfectly. However, there is one part of PhoneNews.com that is not iPhone-compatible, and that’s our Video section.
So, why is it not working? Well, iPhone is supposed to work with our video, it is H.264-encoded, and formatted for iPod. But, it won’t stream over Safari. We’ve isolated this down to that the Safari’s QuickTime Player doesn’t vet MP4 wrappers to see if there’s an H.264 stream. If it’s not in an m4v, it won’t play.
The workaround of course is to save the file on your PC, and then load it into iTunes. They will play on iPhone that way.
We will work around the problem though. Next week we’ll be re-encoding the video files in Apple Compressor (part of Final Cut Studio 2). Those new videos will stream properly on iPhone.
And yes, more video is coming, we haven’t posted new videos recently, but we’re working on it.
