BlogMore WordPress 2.5 Gripes
I already griped on the WordPress 2.5 changes on my own blog, but this one hit home.
Today, I was updating the front page to add a quick link to our Facebook Fan Page.
I typed in the beautiful HTML code, hit the necessary save buttons… and watched the entire widget get vaporized.
Yes, WordPress’s cute resizing and new widget editor erased the whole widget. Now, we do keep meticulous backups… but the amount of time it would take to recover that bit of code is about as long as to re-write the whole complex widget by hand.
Thankfully, I had another browser window open with the widget and just recovered the HTML via clipboard. But, it’s just another sign of reinventing the wheel isn’t a good thing… especially if the old wheel did everything that everyone wanted (and the new wheel doesn’t improve a thing).
