Not the Easiest Move…
After a lot of consideration, the decision has been made… we’ve moving to WordPress. WordPress has grown where Joomla has stagnated. Granted, we haven’t had a lot of luck with this… choosing PHP-Nuke, which at the time was a great choice, then to Joomla, also a great choice for the time.
Joomla 1.5 may have some surprises in store, so don’t be surprised if we change our minds… but from what I’ve seen of Joomla 1.5, it just doesn’t improve enough on where it needed to… search engine optimization, and integration with popular solutions (from sitemaps to XML-plugins). It made a lot of improvements in many of those areas… but not three years worth of improvements. The roadmap looks even more bleak, as the team appears poised to start work on Joomla 2.0, another painful “migration”.
We think migrating is downright unethical, unless there is a darn good reason. Mac OS 9 to X was a darn good reason. Joomla 1.0 to 1.5 has us scratching our heads, and Joomla 2.0 asking the same thing all over again is downright stuck on stupid.
We will be migrating Joomla to WordPress in December. All old links will still work, unlike on Joomla (our efforts to improve the legacy backlink situation, unfortunately, were not as fully implemented in the project as we were once told).
Believe it or not, but this actually has me in a relaxed state. Joomla 1.0 has been hard to look at day after day. Knowing when we’ll be finally done with it is a welcomed change.
