Our App Store Status

Yesterday’s story (and some of the comments I made after the original report) may lead some to believe that we at MechaWorks are members of the iPhone Developer Program.

To be clear, we are not. However, we came very close to be… I had all the paperwork ready to send over to Apple, with our $99 payment. However, the lack of any ad hoc distribution, and no guarantee of App Store approval, has me tearing that paperwork up… as I write this.

Does that mean that we’ll never be App Store developers? I’ll never say never to that. But, as things stand now, we don’t have plans to go the App Store route.

Hopefully Apple will improve things. Hopefully they will offer an ad hoc distribution option. Hopefully they will set clear App Store guidelines and abide by them. Unfortunately, hope is not enough to make a PhoneNews.com app for iPhone.

So, what’s next? We’re evaluating our options. We’ll keep you posted, right here on the blog and in the news.
