Popping Up

Late yesterday, we began rolling out popunders on select pages. Now, before you get all outraged, these will only be deployed on high-bandwidth pages, where we’re offering big files. We want you to get your big files fast, and this allows us to offer much higher-bandiwdth content without downgrading it (YouTube style) or making you wait (external download site style).

Further, the most you’ll ever see is one popunder every 12 hours, and again, this is only if you access a page that contains high-bandwidth content. We wouldn’t ever launch a (browser) crashing set of popups, and we only intend to deploy them in an un-obtrusive manner.

We realize a lot of you don’t like popunders, we don’t like them much ourselves, but we’re going to test this out in an effort to bring HD video, phone firmware, and many other upcoming types of high-bandwidth content to you.
