So, what’s it going to take to get us to WordPress?

Here’s the basic process…

1) We install WordPress and the new look and feel. Then, we spend a good night sleep on configuring everything to be just-right.
2) We import the news from a copy of our Joomla news archive. We’ll have this taken care of before the upload.
3) Old links need to be imported. This is the headache part. We have to make around 2,500 backlinks… by hand. We can predict the WordPress URLs, but it will be difficult to script this task. Really difficult.
4) Once we have all those 301 redirects, we upload them to the server, and simultaneously pull the plug on the Joomla version of the site.

Okay, so what can you expect?

1) Faster. Pages will load much faster and be much more enhanced.
2) More Popular. We’re sick of losing out to the competition just because Google doesn’t like Joomla. This isn’t preference… it’s proven fact.
3) More integration. Better integration with the forums, and total integration with the Phone Encyclopedia.
Yes, WordPress is better than a full Content Management System at linking all this together.
4) Commitment. We’re investing a lot of time and effort in this… we’re in this for the long haul.

And if that’s not enough… how about WAP access to forums, full RSS articles, and feed interactivity? Now you’re starting to get the picture…

So, all of this is going to happen in the second part of December. We’re putting the pieces together now so that this transition will be as easy, fast, stable, and secure as possible. The hard part is waiting, I’d love to flip the switches right now, but half the stuff on the site would break and that would hurt us in the long term.

Oh, and giveaways will be starting back up again today, so stay tuned as usual…
