There are no Items to display, Joomla is Lame
If you are trying to pull up the news today, and are getting a “There are no Items to display”… don’t blame us, blame Joomla.
See, when Joomla gets overloaded… like when everyone’s at home and tries to pull up PhoneNews.com at the same time (say, on a holiday… like New Year’s Day), Joomla spits out [...]
Comments Are Back!
Comments are finally working again. We’ve basically told our server to reject any request for a trackback, to filter out spam. While our current comment software is supposed to use Akismet to fight back against that… that’s yet another part of the software that is broken right now. So, we finally got the coders to [...]
Continue Reading "Comments Are Back!"Update on Job Apps
We finally have a nice pool of people that have inquired about our writer positions. Unfortunately, because of our transition from Joomla to WordPress, we are putting any new writing positions on hold until next month. Fear not though, we have all your inquiries stored in a safe place, and we’ll go through all of [...]
Continue Reading "Update on Job Apps"WordPress Migration Timeframe
Good news from the design team. We’ll have a near final draft soon, hopefully within the next 24 hours.
Once we have that, we’ll be hard at work tweaking and refining it to be the best we can. Once that is done, and everyone (everyone) on the staff signs off on it… the coding will begin.
We [...]
We’re working on it… (Updated)
The comment software unfortunately still doesn’t work. Some of the code changes have caused the comment software to break. Worst, one of my own suggestions to resolve the hole didn’t get implemented, and now we’ve stumbled over the lack of that fix being put into place.
It is going to be such a load off when [...]
Trouble with Trackbacks
We finally found the problem with the comment software. The folks that write it decided to add a trackback feature, similar to WordPress. It’s one of the reasons why we didn’t migrate to WordPress long ago. Unfortunately, the feature doesn’t work… and sites that auto-trackback don’t hook on. Unless you’re manually doing the trackback, [...]
Continue Reading "Trouble with Trackbacks"An Update on Backlinks
Yeah, we know, if you’re reading this, you probably don’t care about old backlinks. But, it is what fuels our dominant search engine position… so it’s certainly important to this site.
As you may know, we’re switching to WordPress within the next month, and it uses an entirely new URL structure. That’s a good thing… it’s [...]
Giveaway Delay
Last night, we ran into a bug with our comment system. We contacted the team that writes that piece of software, and they’ve sent us a fix. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to test it until tonight, and thus, cannot put up a new giveaway until that has been done.
You can continue to post comments [...]
So, what’s it going to take to get us to WordPress?
Here’s the basic process…
1) We install WordPress and the new look and feel. Then, we spend a good night sleep on configuring everything to be just-right.
2) We import the news from a copy of our Joomla news archive. We’ll have this taken care of before the upload.
3) Old links need to be imported. This is [...]
Not the Easiest Move…
After a lot of consideration, the decision has been made… we’ve moving to WordPress. WordPress has grown where Joomla has stagnated. Granted, we haven’t had a lot of luck with this… choosing PHP-Nuke, which at the time was a great choice, then to Joomla, also a great choice for the time.
Joomla 1.5 may have some [...]
