The Santa Rosa MacBook Pro

Meet the newest addition to the PhoneNews.com office, picked up last night. I’ve personally felt let down by Apple’s MacBook versus MacBook Pro breakdown… always waiting for a return of the 12-inch MacBook Pro. The MacBook is great, but has a terrible keyboard and even worse graphics… the lack of metal doesn’t help its case (pun intended).

The MacBook Pro on the other hand is a glorified aircraft carrier. However, the MacBook Pro Santa Rosa finally made me switch back to the MBP. Why you might ask? It’s really a fusion of so many things. The best-in-class GeForce 8600m was a good start, the LED backlit display was another. Having 2 GB of RAM and 120 GB HD standard means no feelings of “I have to break this open the moment I get out of the store and start upgrading it”.

In all, the MacBook Pro finally stands out from the MacBook. Too bad Apple won’t take all that and cram it back into a 12-inch system. Apple, please, don’t just give us an ultraportable MacBook, give us an ultraportable MacBook Pro (that includes the graphics, Mr. Portables Product Manager). Our bank account wires are pending that (expensive) announcement…

On a semi-related note, our Video section is getting a somewhat-related boost. Our next new addition to the office will be Final Cut Studio 2, and Compressor will only help improve our (already awesome) video quality.
