Tidbits, 3%, and a Vacation
Yes, just for fun, we stayed up until 3 AM to make sure the site was still alive. It is, and that’s a good thing.
But, we’ve been busy. The Phones Section is about ready to be handed over to the data-entry people. What does that mean? It means we’ve started our massive Phones Section overhaul, which will integrate specifications, a new look-and-feel, and add gigabytes of files and data for every phone in America. By our estimates, about 3% of the migration is done. 3% in one day sounds like only a little bit of work, but we’ve been preparing for today since July of last year.
That said, a promise is a promise, so in protest of Microsoft destroying the company’s Outlook PST file, we’ll be giving free advertising to open source competitors. And yes, I will be taking a break to migrate everything over to reliable iCal data files. Features that are in-the-can (and there are quite a few) will continue to run in my absence, and the news feed won’t miss a beat.
I should note that this is the first real vacation that I’ve taken from PhoneNews.com in over three years… but don’t feel too bad, all of us here at PhoneNews.com are really enthusiastic and what we’ve done so far. With the new Phones Section well under way, we’re just getting started.
