Two Steps Forward, And…

We’re having some issues with the DNS migration of our new server. ISPs that have already made the switch to the new DNS are not having problems, but ISPs that are still out-of-sync are having issues. The server team has been alerted, and will have things fixed shortly for all connections.

Unfortunately, the server switch pretty much derailed plans to get caught up on our backlog of reviews. Speaking of derailing, one of the reasons that we are switching to WordPress from Joomla is that it will greatly take a burden off when it comes to actually writing articles. Joomla is terrible at losing articles, timing out, resetting sessions. We have to re-write at least a few articles a week because Joomla loses them between the writing phase and the posting phase.

WordPress, on the other had, has modern technologies like auto-draft saving, XML-RPC support, and has committed to official support for third-party sources like Windows Live Writer. Being more reliable on the backend is just as important as being reliable to you the reader, and quite frankly… we’re sick of having to re-write articles on Joomla. The Samsung SLM article I’m re-writing right now is an excellent case of Joomla vaporizing a finished article.

Update: The DNS issue has been fixed. Everyone should be able to access PhoneNews.com, regardless of how painfully slow their ISP is at updating DNS servers.

I think you will also find the plugin system for Wordpress to be a (generally) simple process with the ability to greatly expand the capabilities of your site quickly. It’s why I use it now for all of my sites and even develop for it.
