Wiki Idol and the 95% Rule
With influenza type-b throughly purged (via coughing) from the office, we’re back to the Knowledge Base improvements. There are other things that will launch in the next couple of weeks, but that’s what is being worked on right now.
One of the huge roadblocks that we’ve hit with the Knowledge Base and the phones section is the 95% Rule. That is, every solution we’ve researched comes about 95% of the way to doing what we want. Sometimes that’s more of a stretch than others, depending on how much raw PHP coding we’re willing to do. But, every solution still isn’t as easy and refined as we’d like.
So, hours have been spent over the past week on deciding if MediaWiki, our current platform, was right for the solution. I can safely say after taking a second (or third) look at over 60 other wiki platforms, we made the right decision.
We’re still pinning down the final aspects of deployment… this stuff is not easy to deliver (actually, it’s insanely easy to deliver if we hard code stuff, but letting you edit pages in real time, keep it dynamic, and keep it simple is the hard part). Hopefully we’ll get these last-mile code gaps done over the weekend (baring any other flu-inspired delays).
