You Were Saying?

It seems yesterday’s post about server load was a harbinger of things to come. PhoneNews.com is being hit by a DDoS attack. I cannot give specifics right now, because we don’t want to aid in the efforts, but we have already blocked 4000+ bots which are hammering the site… and that’s since 9 AM.

Because of this, news and other reporting functions may be delayed as we focus resources on securing the server further against these attacks.

Update: Thirteen hours later, we’re still working on it. We won’t rest until it’s fixed… but please bear with us as pages may not load properly. If you have trouble loading a page, just try reloading.

Update 2: The issue is on-going. The attacker is using a sophisticated network of bots, powered by exploits in older versions of WordPress. The network of computers hammering PhoneNews.com stands at over 50,000 concurrent bot attacks currently. Just for the folks that aren’t server admins, that’s an extremely large denial of service attack.
