  • Canonical Ltd. to Launch Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded in October

    Canonical Ltd, developers of the Debian Linux based Ubuntu operating
    system have announced that the group will be launching an operating
    system for mobile phones and embedded devices while using and
    collaborating on ultra low power processor technology from Intel Corp
    with a focus on mobile internet access.



    The announcement came on Saturday during the Ubuntu Developer Summit in
    Seville, Spain. Programmers and contributors to the project will focus
    on power management and user interface design when developing the
    operating system, called Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded. The operating
    system is expected to be released in October, along with Ubuntu 7.10,
    while more information on technical specifications and technologies
    supported is expected before the end of the week.
