As previously reported, the Verizon variant will feature a microSDHC expansion slot in place of the 4GB NAND Flash chip found in the Sprint and Alltel versions, although contract pricing has increased by $100 to $299.99 after $70 mail-in rebate via prepaid Visa debit card when it launches on Friday.

Ever since the phone was launched late last year, anecdotal reports across the internet have criticized the phone for being sluggish and unresponsive at times, with other complaints stemming from the poor touchscreen implementation.

The CDM-8975 features EVDO Rev. A data access, Push-to-Talk service with dedicated button, full access to VCAST Music with Rhapsody and Video, VZNavigator support, microSDHC expansion slot, media player with external controls, Bluetooth with stereo audio support, speakerphone, and 1.3 megapixel camera with video recorder.

The phone is currently available for business customers and will launch on March 9th in all consumer sales channels (Verizon Retail Stores, online, Telesales, and dealers) for $99.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a new 2 year agreement.

The update makes more minor improvements than the first update (for the Verizon version of the device). Specifically, the update makes general improvement for VZ Navigator, as well as improving reliability with some Verizon cell sites designed by Motorola. While poorly promoted, both HTC and Verizon encourage all XV6800 owners to update.

It is not confirmed yet if this update unlocks GPS, as Verizon backpedaled to do on other, newer phones late last year.
