  • Cingular Hikes Text Messaging, Waives Termination Fees

Cingular has decided to follow Sprint in raising their SMS text messaging fees on a per-use basis from $.10 to $.15 per message.

Based on Sprint’s previous acceptance of this as a material change, and that there is no alternative service to pay-per-use messaging (aside from purchasing an additional SMS plan), it does appear that you can cancel service and require Cingular to waive the early termination fee.

PCS Intel attempted to contact Cingular and ask for Cingular’s official position as to their view of the rate increase. However, Cingular declined to respond to multiple requests for comment.

Users on this site, and other sites such as HowardForums have successfully canceled service while waiving the early termination fee.
