Sprint Silently Recalls LG LX160

Sprint has initiated a silent recall of the LG LX160. Sprint has identified a significant number of failed units, and has prompted LG to fix the problem before resuming shipments of the phone.
Silent recalls are common in the wireless industry, generally due to the low failure rate of even the most chronic of issues. In this case, Sprint has isolated the problem to approximately two percent of LX160 units. While that translates into potentially thousands of phones, Sprint is working to make the resolution easy for users.
Specifically, the silent recall addresses failures in the external LCD display, speakerphone, and vibrate functions. Any LX160 that is having problems with any of those features can be taken to a Sprint Store for on-the-spot replacement. Unlike most warranty claims inside Sprint Stores, Sprint has instructed all stores to waive warranty (ESRP) handset replacement fees.
Update: Sprint has responded by saying that the LX160 is not under a formal recall, and that Sprint stands by the quality of the LX160 as a product.
