Ericsson To Close U.S. CDMA Operations

Story title sound familiar? If you added a Sony on the front of it, it would be the same story we covered two-and-a-half years ago. However, today Ericsson has announced they will close their own CDMA R&D facilities in San Diego, citing the lack of interest from U.S. markets for non-Qualcomm CDMA ventures, and the [...]

Cingular: SMT5600 Released On Orange

Cingular has begun to release the Audiovox SMT5600 to all sales channels. Cingular was forced to carry the SMT5600 after negative feedback from former AT&T Wireless customers about not being able to take their “Blue” SMT5600 to a Cingular “Orange” account, and the lack of a SMT5600 to switch to once becoming an “Orange” customer.
While [...]

SPI Labs: More Progress on PPC-6600 & EV-DO

A brief follow-up to the recent coverage of the PPC-6600 and its potential support for EV-DO. We have been able to determine that the main reason that our original update did not work was Sprint’s EV-DO PRL. It appears that the 20007 PRL is very targeted for data card devices. Modified versions of the 20007 [...]

This move would leave T-Mobile as the only national carrier to have not upgraded from the Treo 600 to the Treo 650.

Sprint: AT&T Mobility Services

If you were thinking that the launched MVNO between AT&T and Sprint was dead in the water because of SBC’s buyout of AT&T Corp, think again. Sprint and AT&T Corp appear to be moving forward towards launching their service. Some web sites shortly showed AT&T Mobile offering the RIM BlackBerry 7250 (Sprint offers the 7750), [...]

Sprint: PRL 10027 Released

Sprint has issued PRL 10027 for over-the-air updating. Call *2 and ask to be flagged for the update.
This is not to be confused with the 20007 PRL for EV-DO data devices. Sprint initially (and incorrectly) referred to the 20007 PRL as version 10027. PRL 10027 is for non-EV devices (in other words, all devices other [...]

Verizon: VX8000 Firmware Update Disables DUN

Verizon has just issued a new firmware for their LG VX8000 EV-DO Handset. Version T80VZV05 disables support for the device to be used as a modem, as well as delivers several major software fixes. In some of the technician notes on the update, it is mentioned that DUN (Dial-Up Networking) support can be re-enabled, but [...]
