PCS Intel broke news that Cingular would not be launching all UMTS phones with UMTS dual-band support, today, FCC documents confirm that. The Nokia N80, a Series 60 device, has been approved with Cingular brandings, however, the U.S. variant of the N80 will not include UMTS 850 MHz support.

Cingular: Treo 650 Firmware Update 1.17 Released
Palm has released firmware 1.17 for Cingular and formerly AT&T Wireless customers. This software update improves battery life, Bluetooth, email, and the web browser. It is reccomended that all Cingular Treo 650 owners install the update, and Cingular has announced that they will text message Treo 650 owners alerting them of the update.

Sprint Purchases Alamosa PCS
Sprint Nextel and Alamosa Holding, Inc announced that the national carrier will be purchasing it largest affiliate in a cash deal valued at $4.3 billion. The deal includes taking on the affiliate’s $900 million in debt, and will convert Alamosa’s approximately 1.5 million subscribers in 19 states into direct subscribers.
