Something New From PDANet

Group:

I almost glommed on to that Sprint Phone as Modem post. But this issue is really different. So here goes.

I have a grandfathered, $40 Uncapped PAM on a Motorola V950. 'Works great.

I'd like to get an Android tablet to surf the web over Bluetooth from my V950.

I can see that Android (and even Linux with the newest BlueZ) doesn't support this connect profile. They support PAN. But the V950 doesn't.

The only company that's really done anything to add a standard BT-DUN interface to Android is June Fabrics, with the PDANet product.

But to date the only usage profile I've seen for PDANet is using a Smart Phone with it installed as a 3G access point for your computer (a laptop, typically).

But will PDANet work with 3G moving in the other direction?

I don't think I'll ever be able to install any form of PDANet on my V950...

But if I could get the Android version to work as a client and not a server...

There are Android tablets coming out with built in 3G radios (like the Dell Streak) that you don't have to activate service on. They have WiFi, and can work like an iPod Touch with no 3G. I don't know if they have BT though. 'Hope so.

I know some of you get what I'm talking about.

Is it possible that they already support this?

Does anyone have a contact at June Fabrics they can PM me? I'd happily try and advocate they think about supporting this with their product.

Sprint phone-as-modem

This afternoon, when my cable TV/phone/Internet service disappeared briefly, I attempted to use my Samsung M300 as a modem. I had been using the same phone for such purposes from time to time since I purchased it (over 2 years ago). Today, I got "Error #67" -- a registration failure. I called Sprint customer support and the tech told me that I did not have a PAM plan for the phone. I currently have the Everything Messaging Share1500 plan (4 lines). My phone had the $15/month Data Pack, which seemed to allow PAM usage (until today), but now I'm told that I have to pony up an extra $30/month for PAM (Pro Pack + Data Pack). Rather than do that, I removed the Data Pack addon, since I rarely use the web browser on my phone (not a terribly pleasant experience, anyway) and it's not capable of any of the other services provided by the $15/month fee...

I want my PAM back, without having to pay an arm and a leg. Do I have any recourse?

Why can't I find a PAM plan on Sprint's web site?

As if I'm not disgruntled enough with the unplanned outage by my cable provider, now I don't have a backup Internet connection!

I've Got To Get A Blackberry: Two Questions

Group:

I've been a Sprint user for approaching ten years now. All has been mostly good.

I just took a new job that started a week and a half ago. And I've been informed that all employees at our company must use a Blackberry for push e-mail.

They told me I can keep my existing cell number with Sprint and do business over it. I intend to do that. I have a grandfathered (Free and Clear 1000 for $40 + Unlimited PAM for $40) service plan. And I make good use of my 3G data service. I want to keep all that as is.

Most of my coworkers have Blackberries on AT&T. And I can activate one of these for $50 ($45/month, unlimited data, plus $5 for not having a voice plan).

My boss suggested (knowing I'm on Sprint already) that my billing would be simpler (he's right) if I get a Blackberry with Sprint.

My questions are:

1. I don't really understand the difference between having a Blackberry and having a Blackberry with Smartphone Enterprise. I see that the latter costs more. I know my company has a server set up to route push e-mail. And I've been told I need this more costly option. Are any of the $30 data plans mentioned in question #2 inclusive of this? If not, what's the best deal to get what I want?

2. How do I add a cost-effective (either Sprint Pro Pack or Sprint RelayStore plan) data plan for a Blackberry on my grandfathered plan? I don't want to screw that up.

Thanks in advance.

Instinc 3g or not?

I just received a letter from sprint informing me that as of Dec. 31, 2009. My 2G service will be discontinued. They are asking me to get a new phone that supports 3g. I currently have a samsung instinct. I am very confused I though my instinct was a 3g phone. Can some one help clarify this for me. I thought that it was their way to have me renew my contract but they are saying in the letter that I do not have to renew my contract. Something I also find odd is that I also have a Palm Centro and Blackberry Perl 8130 on the same line but they are only asking me to change my Instict phone. Does any one know what going and is willing to give more details. Thanks.

Sprint and unlocked phones

In the news section there is an active story about the Hero and how the Everything plan requirement is making them leave. There are a few posters who claim they will just wait til vzw's Desire or the vzw iphone (man that's funny
) comes out to but it with them cancel and have Sprint flash it so they can keep their old plan. That sounds like an an awful lot just to save a few dollars but I just wanted some knowledgeable person to clear the misconception up or am I wrong because as far as I know Sprint doesn't flash phones or activate non-Sprint phones.

Pre vs Hero vs Instinct

Hey Everyone,

I've been doing a lot of looking around about the Pre, Hero and Instinct. Reviews seems to like all the options, so I thought who better to ask than people using these phones. What do you think? Android vs webOS?

I like that Android is open source, but I really like form factor of the Pre. They are all roughly the same price after rebates and whatnot. Plus I'm due for an upgrade.

I have a pretty good legacy plan with unlimited data, but I think I'll have to upgrade to an Everything Plan regardless of which route I choose. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I've called Sprint twice and received conflicting information about the Hero requiring an Everything plan if I already have unlimited data.
