Hektor Tsung, Garmin-Asus regional director for sales in Asia has confirmed at CommunicAsia that the long-delayed G60 Linux-based navigation oriented handset would now launch in some markets in August along with the M20 Windows Mobile device while other markets will launch later in the second half of the year confirming prior statements.
Tung also confirmed that Garmin-Asus would abandon its custom Linux implementation used in the G60 in favor of Android and Windows Mobile in the future, with the first Garmin-Asus Android handset now expected at the end of the year, earlier than the 1st half 2010 debut initially projected.
The G60 has been perpetually delayed ever since the first announcement of the device in 2008, with Garmin-Asus President Cliff Pemble admitting the difficulty of developing a custom developed Linux based device.
