  • Garmin CEO Confirms Pending US Nuviphone Launch

ImageSpeaking to shareholders earlier today, Garmin CEO Cliff Pemble assured investors that the long-delayed nuviphone series of smart devices was in the secondary stages of carrier certification and would see release first in Asia between this month and July, followed by a US launch of the lineup shortly afterward.

When asked to elaborate on the release delays for the devices, Pemble admitted that the company initially focused on the user interface and expected to develop it with the intention to sell it directly unlocked until it received unexpected carrier interest, which forced it to go back and focus on carrier customizations, which confirms previously reported delays.

Pemble also stated at the same meeting that Garmin-Asus would release its first Android-based device in 2010, with no further information given.
