Google has quietly launched the first Sony Android smartphone under its Play Edition program with the launch of the Z Ultra for $649.99 unlocked and unbranded. The Play Edition of the Sony Z Ultra is also unique in that it drops the Xperia branding from the device. The device features a 6.4-inch 1080p display with a 342ppi pixel density, Snapdragon 800 at 2.2GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage with microSD slot, 8MP rear camera with Sony’s Exmor RS sensor, 2MP front camera, and 3000mAh battery, the same as the Xperia Z Ultra with the only difference being the inclusion of stock Android KitKat.
