How To: Add GPS to HTC Mogul - XV6800 - P4000 - Titan

HTC Mogul XV6800 P4000 TitanAfter days of waiting for stability, PhoneNews.com is hosting all the tools you need, and a simple guide to add GPS navigation to your HTC Titan (PPC-6800, XV6800, or P4000). This guide is for all carriers: Alltel, Sprint, Verizon, Telus, and Bell.

PhoneNews.com is always looking for additional workflows, guides, and processes. If you’ve got code, we’ve got the bandwidth. Just drop us an email.

Click Read More below for the process, and details. For discussion, please visit the active discussion on our forums, and this has been added to our HTC Titan Page on the Phone Encyclopedia.

Installing this update will enable GPS to function inside your HTC Titan. It enables the gpsOne chipset in your device to function as a standard GPS device, compatible with Windows Mobile 5 & 6 GPS applications, including Google Maps, Windows Live for Mobile, and navigation software such as TomTom Navigator. Keep in mind that gpsOne is not autonomous GPS, you will need to have home network coverage in order to maintain a GPS lock.

Also, keep in mind that this software is not supported by HTC. it is expected that carriers will be releasing this functionality in a future update. If you are not comfortable with this process, do not proceed. To maintain your warranty, you will need to remove this software (by restoring your device) before sending the device in for warranty service.

There are two ways to accomplish this; the automated route, and the manual installation route. We are still working on automated installers for all variants of the HTC Titan, so please bear with us if your device is not yet completed.

Manual Installation Procedure

Keep in mind that all data on the device will be erased. Sync and backup all data on the device before proceeding.

This process has three steps:

1) Unlocking the device, so it supports unsupported firmware flashes
2) Updating the software of the device (to listen for GPS commands)
3) Updating the baseband radio firmware to enable GPS

For this, you will need a few files:

1) Hard-SPL-240-MFG.exe (this is the unlocker mentioned in the first step).
2) Titan_Radio_3.27.00.exe (this is the baseband radio firmware)
3) The software update for the Titan (chose your carrier from the link below)
DCD 2.1.0 - Alltel - This is not needed for Alltel anymore, click here for the official update
DCD 2.1.0 - Sprint - This is not needed for Sprint anymore, click here for the official update
DCD 2.1.0 - Verizon Wireless
DCD 2.1.0 - Bell
DCD 2.1.0 - Telus

Here is the procedure for updating:

  • Open Hard-SPL-240-MFG.exe. It will extract files into C:\ttn240mfg, and then launch an unlocker. Follow the instructions on screen.
  • Once it has been completed, launch the device’s software update. Follow the instructions on screen for the updater.
  • Following the updater’s final instructions, power cycle the device as instructed (holding power and reset buttons simultaneously). The device will likely freeze at startup on your carrier’s logo. This is normal.
  • When the device does freeze, hold power, camera, and reset buttons. This will send the device into what is known as Bootloader Mode.
  • Connect the Titan back to your computer. Run the baseband radio firmware update, similar to the instructions above.
  • When finished, power cycle again as instructed, holding power and reset buttons to complete the update.
  • The device should now have GPS enabled via the GPS utility in Start > Settings > System > External GPS. While it says External GPS, COM5 now routes back into the device’s internal network-assisted GPS functionality.

Update: To restore Office Mobile functionality, regardless of installer, this download from Microsoft has been reported to fix it.

The efforts of many people contributed to this process. We cannot thank them all individually, but we do acknowledge (and thank) the active HTC hacking community for these developments.

How do you return your PCC6800 back to the Sprint ROM? I have a copy of the latest ROM off of the HTC site. when I ran the update I got an error message

bdub on January 29th, 2008, 11:38 am

I am getting
ERROR (328): Invalid Command
“This Update Utility cannot be used for your PDA Phone. Please Check your Update Utility” on the bottom right it shows “IU2″. This happens whe trying to flash the factory ROM.

Christopher Price on January 29th, 2008, 12:05 pm

Bdub, have you previously installed a modified/hacked ROM onto the device? That’s a common error if you have, the fix is simply to re-lock the device, and then restart the procedure from the beginning.

Edit: I didn’t see your initial comment. We will have downgrade instructions up shortly. The process is a bit difference as you need to re-lock the device to accept the official software version. Also note that Verizon, Alltel, and Bell units do not have any software updates yet, so downgrading will require extra work.

bdub on January 29th, 2008, 12:14 pm

No I haven’t before this was the first. How do you lock the ROM back?

Rhythmic on January 29th, 2008, 12:15 pm

Thanks for this compilation and almost “push button” instructions!!

bdub on January 29th, 2008, 12:18 pm

I just saw your edit. patientlyy waiting…LOL!!!!

bdub on January 29th, 2008, 12:23 pm

Chris being a first timer, are you suppose to reactivate after this update? It looks like this is a complete ROM replacement. When I try to make a call I get the Sprint activation message.

Christopher Price on January 29th, 2008, 12:46 pm

Yes, because this is a modified radio stack (one not yet fully adapted for updating), you’ll need to reprogram the device with technical support. This applies to all units, not just Sprint phones. Some may need to re-enter their A-Key during programming, this is something technical support can provide you with.

Has anyone received the following connection error 262: Update Error?

Joe on January 29th, 2008, 2:58 pm

I tried this on xv6800 using automatic installer and active sync 4.5. The tool attempts to do the update but after the phone reboots and gives me the rainbow screen I loose connection in active sync and the update progress just reads 0% on the computer and the phone. Eventually I get error 262 from the update utility. When I reboot the phone everything comes up ok. Should I be using an older version of active sync? Any ideas?

Tobin on January 29th, 2008, 3:10 pm

I have a new 6800 and it hangs on the rom update at 0%. Upon a reboot of the phone, I get… The file ‘MortScript’ cannot be opened. Either is is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring the file or ping Christopher Price for help :0 Sorry, added the last part. Ideas on how to get past this, I am looking forward to GPS !!!!

Damian Biltres on January 29th, 2008, 3:13 pm

I was facing the same error (Error 262) earlier today but got it to work using the manual installation method. However, I could not get the GPS update (the final step) to work. Instead of seeing a GPS icon in my settings screen I only see the original External GPS icon. Any ides?

Damian Biltres on January 29th, 2008, 3:51 pm

Ok, this ROM has conflicts with ActiveSync and Bluetooth. Can you please provide instructions on how to load the device to its orginal state?

damion on January 29th, 2008, 7:25 pm

i have completed all steps but still yet to see a gps apart from the external icon that was always there

Christopher Price on January 29th, 2008, 8:10 pm

The External GPS control panel in settings handles the built-in GPS. Just set it to COM5 if you haven’t already… that’s the port most people are reporting works.

As to a downgrader, again, we’re working on it. Due to server failures on other web sites, the community is a bit splintered right now, but I expect a full downgrade to be released sometime Friday at the latest.

Tobin on January 29th, 2008, 9:28 pm

I guess I’m still trying to figure out what my problem is, I tried it twice and it hung at 0% and then I got the missing MortScript.exe on startup/reboot of the phone. My phone is still completly installed with the original MS 6 and the ROM upgrade didn’t do anything to my VZW XV6800.

Damian Biltres on January 29th, 2008, 9:58 pm

Ok, so I had my initial issues with the automatic ROM update. Once that didn’t work I tried the manual installer. That seemed to work but had many things missing such as Mobile Office. The GPS, which was the main reason I tried this updater did not work. I tried to give the automatic version another try hoping something did not load correctly. This finally worked and added several applications including mobile office. While thie update an improvement on the manual updater I still cannot get the GPS to work on any port ( I am trying it with Google Maps). I do not recommend the manual method as it is not the same package as the automatic method. If anyone gets the GPS to work please post directions.

download the

i think it was missing an “e” in the exe part so after i downloaded i renamed it to a .exe and it worked fine, no problems for me on the install!

Tobin on January 30th, 2008, 6:59 am

I tried upgrading my verizon XV6800 again via the automated method this morning from my computer at work… it hung at 0% again. I didn’t get the mortscript error on bootup. Ideas?

parrott84 on January 30th, 2008, 7:39 am

Chris,

“The efforts of many people contributed to this process. We cannot thank them all individually, but we do acknowledge (and thank) the active HTC hacking community for these developments.”

I like your work, but you could at least give credit to the author of the ROM you are using, DCD at xda-developers.com. Sure lot’s of people contributed to helping him refine it, but if you are going to re-distribute his work you should at least mention him.

Christopher Price on January 30th, 2008, 8:00 am

If we credit DCD, there’s going to be two or three people that will come forward saying that DCD’s work wouldn’t have been possible without their work. Or, someone will say DCD just copied XYZ’s techniques and re-rolled the ROM. We’ve been through this before. What we said applies best, we thank everyone that contributed.

Titan re-locker:
http://rapidshare.com/files/87435645/Titan_Relocker.zip

ummm mine is stuck at startup screen though, you have to connect through activesync to run the relocker. How do I get it relocked to run the old ROM to get it to boot past startup screen? Any ideas?

Jeff on January 30th, 2008, 8:48 am

From the External GPS Settings here are the settings
Programs tab, Find a com port COM4 or COM5
Hardware tab, (None) Baud rate 4800

Don’t forget to turn on Location Settings to ON from the Device Options in the Dialer under Services tab. (I wasn’t getting GPS until I did this).

I would pay money to have this for the Touch

Michael CIliege on January 30th, 2008, 1:03 pm

Does anyone know if this will work with the HTC Touch for Sprint. I would love to have the GPS built in on my device???

Tim on January 30th, 2008, 1:12 pm

I am eagerly awaiting the downgrader for my Verizon 6800. My phone is sucking hard because of this. Cannot get my favorite people to appear on the HTC Home anymore. I’ve been jacking around all day getting the new installed programs off the phone because it was so slow the phone was nearly unusable. GPS worked though.

Damian Biltres on January 30th, 2008, 2:08 pm

Tim,

I feel the same way. However, I did not get the GPS to work on mine. I tried the steps Jeff mentioned several posts ago to no avail. What COM port do you have your GPS set to?

Christopher Price on January 30th, 2008, 2:10 pm

This firmware does not work on the HTC Touch. Do not attempt to install this firmware on the Touch.

HTC however, will release an update for the Touch later this year which enables the same functionality.

tim on January 30th, 2008, 3:57 pm

Damian, I have Com port 5 enabled, the rest I just left alone. It took a long time for it to kick in but now its instant. I’ve gotten everything ironed out except my voice command button on the side doesnt work and I cannot get the People tab on HTC home to appear. I’ve tried everything with no luck. The ONLY thing i’m happy with is the threaded SMS. Which program is that? Anyone know?

Damian Biltres on January 30th, 2008, 7:10 pm

David,

Are you talking about the verizon screen or the boot loader screen?

Damian Biltres on January 30th, 2008, 7:11 pm

Tim,

Thanks for the response. I’m starting from scratch. I found that running the flash from Vista may be the source of my problems. I’m going to run it in a few minutes from my XP box.

Matt on January 30th, 2008, 8:52 pm

I fan the new rom but when I try to run the titan radio rom it tells me my phone is not compatible. I have a Sprint mogul. any suggestions

6800newbie on January 30th, 2008, 9:27 pm

Everything worked fine. The directions were great, especially the follow-ups. Had to call Verizon to get the A-Key setup after a *228. GPS/Phone/PDA = perfect combination.

Dave on January 31st, 2008, 2:08 am

very nice, love the fact that it employs tomtom navigation software. love the go 720, so this would be sweet addition to an HTC. also did you hear about the tomtom navigation application for the iphone? should be sweet. Gps on a cell phone is definitely the wave of the future.

david on January 31st, 2008, 12:30 pm

works great on ppc6800 sprint, i had no problems at all

Answerman on January 31st, 2008, 4:15 pm

Nice writeup… good to see the Alltel love! Here’s my experience with my Alltel PPC-6800:

A note: Because you will need to reprovision the phone, I think it is important to make sure you are in an Alltel native area since you want to make sure you can get to Alltel’s *228 after flashing. If you are roaming, you would have trouble I would think, in which case you would have to ##778 (##PST) and enter everything manually. I went through and wrote down ALL my settings in PST just to be on the safe side before I upgraded, though I ended up not needing them.

First of all, the ROM installed very cleanly. The order should be HardSPL, then DCD’s ROM, and then the radio last as I understand it… though I ended up installing the reinstalling the ROM after the radio so I’m not sure how big of a deal that is.

Once everything is installed, you will see 1X and roaming. You must then do a *228 and select option 3 to reprovision the phone on Alltel’s network to get back to EvDO and not roaming. The phone will reboot. You then need to *228 again select option 2 to update the PRL (as the ROM installs a really old PRL 30006 for some reason) or manually update your PRL to 40029 if you want EvDO roaming on Sprint (click on “Alltel PRLs” at the top of this page).

Then, you should be ready to go! No problems at all with either phone or data…. the *228s took care of all the setup.

Here’s what I’ve noticed so far, as well as answering the questions I remember being asked:

DCD’s ROM, being a “clean and simple” flavor, is pretty snappy (though the phone always seems faster after a hard reset, so I don’t know how seriously I would take that).

I don’t have a headphone adapter, but both the stock headphones and my Seidio amplified car kit (uses the miniUSB port) worked fine.

My Jabra BT350 Bluetooth headset paired right up and worked just fine. Can’t say that the sound quality is either better or worse.

No RevA in my area, so I can’t vouch for that, but a speedtest seemed to be right where I usually am (EvDO speeds between 400k and 900k depending on signal).

Now, about the GPS… it worked very well! I have Odyssey Mobile nav software (it came with my Holux GPSlim 236 BT receiver) and I installed it and configured it to use COM4 (which seems to be the consensus port to use with the 6800’s internal GPS). It took about 5 minutes to find the satellites, but then it worked really well… I took it for a drive and it was consistently seeing 7 satellites and using either 6 or 7. It was pinning my location down well, showing me driving under overpasses as I was doing so, etc… I went down to a 25 foot range in Odyssey and it looked like my location was spot on.

So far, so good… other than the one lockup I had overnight, no problems at all… battery life seems fine and the phone is very snappy.

Jeff on January 31st, 2008, 11:45 pm

Further followup for the GPS to work…

Because of the way the drivers work, you need to use something that directly addresses the GPS Intermediate driver to get the chipset fired up and working. Use something like Google Maps, Live Search, or Yahoo Go! They all directly address it, as I know from personal experience that trying to access GPS in TomTom 6.030 without doing one of these first did not work. TomTom is trying to talk directly to the COM port and does not invoke the driver from what I understand from reading over on xdadevelopers.com. I know that they have programmers such as GPS Launcher over there to deal with the very issue also.

Just a few thoughts.

LOL you rip off DCD and you give out misinformation. The GPS works fine as a standalone system. I can turn the phone off and still use the GPS.

Infact wikipedia says this of the GPSOne chipset:

gpsOne can operate in 4 modes:

* Standalone - Your handset has no connection to the network, and uses only the GPS satellite signals it can currently receive to try and establish a location.
* MS Based - Your handset is connected to the network, and uses the GPS signals + a location signal from the network.
* MS Assisted - Your handset is connected to the network, uses GPS signals + a location signal then relays its ‘fix’ to the server, which then uses the signal strength from your phone to the network towers to further plot your position. You can still maintain voice communication in this scenario, but not ‘Internet/Network service’ ie Web Browser, IM, streaming TV etc..
* MS Assisted/Hybrid - Same as above, but network functionality remains. Normally only in areas with exceptional coverage.

Tried to run the gps update on the mogul, i think its fried. i ran the unlocker, i got the DCD sprint rom on there, it froze at the HTC/carrier logo. i did the reset into bootloader mode, i go to run the 3.27 radio update, i get error code 202 connection. Help Please, im thinking i “bricked” it.

i shoulda mentioned, that when i put it into bootloader mode after DCD. it came up spl-1.07.0000. is that bad?

All these questions..

couldn’t you just point these people to PPCGeeks.com OR Xda developers where this unofficial release originated ,…Geeze your lame … they both have huge posts on this subject and all of these concerns addressed even an easier install method via SD Card again phonenews = lame

Tim on February 1st, 2008, 9:40 am

My phone seems to be bricked as well. No comms via usb. Tried many different times/ways to flash from the sd card. Nope. Now I need to figure out a way to completely kill the phone so I can take it back to the store and exchange it without them knowing what i did to it.

Time to credit some people, since PhoneNews apparantly is just gonna rip these people off without credit:

guys rule!
2) Hey, where did this new leaked rom come from? Oh, Kmartburrito
supplied it for us! Thanks a lot, dude!
3) Look at all these carrier-specific roms. Someone must have spent
a lot of time on those. Oh yeah, DCD did! Thanks, man!
4) Oh yeah, and if we didn’t mention you, we’ll just give a nice
shout out to all the fine folks at PPCGeeks and xda-developers for

and yeah, all of the issues people are experiencing have been ironed out over at PPCGeeks and XDA.

PhilR8, you are simply incorrect in your assertion that we are “ripping these people off without credit”. I am not going to repeat our explanation a third time, but I suggest you read the entire article and all comments before posting in the future.

PPCGeeks.com has been offline until today. I don’t know how these issues could have been “ironed out” on a site that has been offline. We’ve offered to give PPCGeeks.com additional resources, including bandwidth, but have never received a reply back.

Answerman on February 1st, 2008, 1:15 pm

Chris, again thanks for spreading the word about this great thing that is happening. I frequent both PPCGeeks and xda-developers as well and I’m sure they appreciate the mirror of the information so that the community as a whole can take advantage of it.

A quick question regarding DCD’s ROM… has anyone else had problems with it locking up while charging? I religiously plug my 6800 in at night before I go to bed so that it has a full charge in the morning, and both mornings when I got up it was frozen and after a soft reset the battery was at about 30-40%. Is this a quirk for me only, or has anyone else noticed it?

This ROM works great, I got GPS to work on COM4 & COM5. I even turned the phone radio off (ie flight mode) and was able to locate my house on google maps. I like the interface and dial pad, but thought it was HTCs, or is it DD2s hacks? The other thing is that Im also missing mobile office & windows live, so I can’t synchronize my contacts for now.

If you can’t make any calls after flashing, remove your battery for one minute, then reboot and dial
##632700#, select edit on the window that appears and fill in your MSIC & MDN, they are both your phone number with area code. This is what sprint customer service did for me and I am no able to get on the internet and make calls.

If you find a way to get the rest of the programs back, let me know.

Holy crap are you kidding me you need to point these people over to our site for this is is not for the people with the faint of heart. People really need to know that you can really f-up your ppc and if you dont belive me i am a beta tester over there and i go though the phones flash over and over agian. Christopher Price on February 1st, 2008, 10:33 pm

S10onn2o, I’m not sure what the extra caution is for… please don’t tell people they should just go aimlessly through tons of other web sites before doing something.

If there are any steps we’re missing, let us know so that we can go over them, and see if our steps need to be updated.

s10onn2o on February 1st, 2008, 11:38 pm

Alot of the common problams is that people get stuck in the bootloader and freak out this is very common. If you install the Hard Spl 2.4 first you will beable to recover from a lot of things.

First you need to get your info by pressing ##PST# or ##PST on your dial pad (depending on carrier)
select view and write down the MDN,MSID, AKEY (some carriers do not show the akey)
I know for a fact that you have to call ##8899 for verizon users to get your akey (be sure to write it down)
To flash your ppc its best to do it in this order.
1. Hard SPL -
2. DCD ROM you carrier
3. Radio
After you have flash everything you will need to input your info that you wrote down earlier press ##PST or ##PST depending on carrier. and select edit only edit the info needed
The com port for GPS is com4 and the speed is 4800
Also this rom and radio have had reports of REV A evdo but has been spotty.
I will check in and out to try to help with any questions

SIDE NOTE: I am not here to flame this site or you Chris. I just dont want to see people get upset with YOU or US for any of the hacking or mods that can mess up a ppc quick and fast.

s10onn2o on February 1st, 2008, 11:40 pm

Sorry one more thing people that need some of the programs back we can help just tell me what you need and ill see if i can add it to the rom for you.

mamothstick on February 2nd, 2008, 12:26 am

Chris…

There have been a few post relevant to the usage of the automatic installer and windows mobile device center (i.e., Vista). The auto tool attempts to do the update but after the phone reboots and returns the rainbow screen, there is a connection loss with WMDC and the update progress just reads 0% on the computer and the phone. Eventually, an error 262 from the update utility is splashed. The phone reboots properly, but as a newbie, I’m lost.

Can you provide guidance?

Christopher Price on February 2nd, 2008, 12:49 am

We’ve posted an Office Mobile fix. Please post in the comments if it works or not.

Unfortunately, we were supposed to have our in-house XV6800 by now. But, FedEx has once again decided to take more than two-days on a two-day delivery time window.

I tried the Automated Installer (Currently for Verizon XV6800 units only) as I have a Verizon unit. The process dies after initial connection to the pda for uploading the firmware. Looks like it ends active sync and then errors out that connection to the device is terminated, any help will be apriciated

Christopher Price on February 2nd, 2008, 2:57 pm

If the Automated Installer fails, switch to the Manual Installation path.

Jack on February 2nd, 2008, 11:46 pm

I seem to be stuck on the HTC Logo screen after the Sprint “dcd_titan_2.1.0_sprint.exe” install. My phone won’t even charge now(at least the charge LED will not light up or blink. What should I do?

Jack on February 3rd, 2008, 12:05 am

Nevermind…I got the phone into bootloader by holding the Power and Camera buttons while resetting the phone…. Phewwwww!

Jack on February 3rd, 2008, 12:14 am

Sorry Chris….I was thinking the 2 soft key buttons were the “…reset buttons.” You spelled it out clear as can be. I’m just a nervous idiot.

Barbara on February 3rd, 2008, 9:29 am

Will this procedure work for the HTC Mogul through Qwest?

Christopher Price on February 3rd, 2008, 11:32 am

I wouldn’t attempt it on the Qwest Mogul right now. The firmware on Qwest units is slightly different, and downgrading is going to be more difficult.

I would contact Qwest and HTC and ask when they are coming out with a ROM update, since they should have come out with one to match the Sprint update already released. Unfortunately, Qwest is dragging their feet even more than Sprint on getting updates for their devices approved.

Barbara on February 3rd, 2008, 11:48 am

Thank you for your response, Christopher. I kind of thought that might be the case :(

Well, I will inquire with Qwest and when I have any useful information from them, I’ll post an update to this thread.

J_Money on February 3rd, 2008, 5:20 pm

Hi all. I seem to have loaded everything as explained but have had no success at getting GPS to work. I have tried all of the ports, and confirmed Location setting is On. I have tested Google Maps, and Live Search. I have also let each application try loading GPS for over ten minutes, still no luck.
Any other testing I can do? Any other things i can try?

PJRech on February 3rd, 2008, 6:18 pm

Since I installed the new GPS+PDA+PHONE ROM, my device restarts all the time… I was forced to return to the original ROM. Anyone can help me? Or can I help to solve this issue? Thanks

PJRech on February 3rd, 2008, 6:26 pm

Hi Cris,

I’m from Brasil… Here we have only one CDMA operator, called VIVO.
I’m deteminated to develop a ROM to VIVO with WM6.1 in Portuguese Brasil. If you know how, can you give me the directions to do that?
Sorry to the inconvenince of posting this questions here at this forum, but I couldnt find you in another one. Thanks.

IdiotforTrying on February 3rd, 2008, 6:52 pm

I tried this update and got the GPS to work after a few nervous moments. I also had to call Verizon to fix the problem with them not being able to authenticat my phone for making phone calls. I have noticed tow things that are kind of annoying. The battery meter icon on the main screen does not display anymore. Also, the Microsoft direct push for my exchange server seems to not work. Any ideas on a fix? Thanks!

Christopher Price on February 3rd, 2008, 9:14 pm

Keep in mind this is a beta-quality ROM, and has been minimized for testing.

If you have not yet tried the newer 6.1 ROMs, I suggest you upgrade to those, as they are more stable.

If your device is mission-critical, you should only be using official ROMs issued by the carrier.

Hi Chris,

I have the verizon 6800 and installed everything now i”m stuck at the Verizon start-up screen. It’s just hanging there

Brian on February 4th, 2008, 9:04 am

Hey Damian Biltres,

I”m stuck on the Verizon logon screen can you assist me please?

Thanks

Brian on February 4th, 2008, 9:20 am

Is there anyone out here that can fix my issue with Verizon XV6800 being stuck at the Verizon startup screen? This happened after I installed the Verizon update HELP PLEASE. I don’t see any response on how to solve this error.

Or do i need to go to The verizon store for the fix.

Brian on February 4th, 2008, 9:25 am

My Battery Life is decreasing

Christopher Price on February 4th, 2008, 9:26 am

Put the phone into bootloader mode as described above, and try to re-flash the device again. That usually fixes it.

Brian on February 4th, 2008, 9:51 am

Hey Chris,

Boot Loader Mode is that when I press both the camera and power button at the same time i press the soft reset?

Christopher Price on February 4th, 2008, 9:59 am

Yes, you will get the colored bars on the screen when you are in bootloader mode.

Brian on February 4th, 2008, 10:00 am

Because i do that and it resets it self to the same verzion screen.

How long do I hold all three buttons?

Brian on February 4th, 2008, 10:19 am

Got Chris was pressing the Comm button instead of camera button.

Thank you

David Hunt on February 4th, 2008, 10:45 am

I have Sprint Mogul and I have followed all the instructions…

but it seems that the GPS (in Google Maps) searches for satellites and does not find anything? I’ve let the thing search for 30min-1hour and nothing.

Associated external GPS with Com5
Location is ON

any suggestions? — on how to test if GPS is indeed working?

Christopher Price on February 4th, 2008, 11:21 am

Try COM4, it’s looking like that now is yielding better results. Also, if applicable, set your port speed to 4800 bps. Keep in mind even with that, it can take up to 20 minutes the first time for the device to get a GPS lock.

Brian on February 4th, 2008, 11:25 am

Chris,

I do not see my wireless sync option how do I locate that?

Christopher Price on February 4th, 2008, 11:42 am

Verizon Wireless Sync was removed from the Verizon ROM for testing, as it has compatibility issues with Windows Mobile 6.1. We’re waiting for Verizon to update it, but it may be awhile as Windows Mobile 6.1 technically hasn’t been released yet.

J_Money on February 4th, 2008, 12:44 pm

GPS not connecting for you?….
I was able to finally connect with Chris’s setings by making sure I was in direct line of site with the GPS satellites OUTSIDE. It still took about 2 minutes for it to connect and show GPS location in Live Search. Awesome.
Com5 AND location setting On.

Thanks Chris!

Brian on February 4th, 2008, 1:10 pm

Microsoft Direct Push should work, you can set up a free account at http://www.mail2web.com

Follow the instructions there for forwarding email from your existing provider as well as how to configure ActiveSync settings on your device.

Chris,

Just want to say THANKS!!! for all you HELP!!! I really see a difference in your repsonse time and your helpful and quality threads.

I was able to test the GPS with the XV6800 and Microsoft Search. It worked well. Dude this ROCKS!!!

However since I use the PDA for work critical issues there are some utilities that are missing with the Beta 6.1 so unfortunately I will have downgrade back to 6.0.

I was up til 3 a.m. trying to locate RUU for my Verizon XV6800 Once last plea for help.

Thanks A Bunch!!!

I tried to put office 6.1 mobile back on my Sprint PPC6800 after the update, it tells me it cannot find a previous version of Office to update. Are there any other steps required to put it back on?

jkohl on February 5th, 2008, 9:29 am

The GPS is working great! With Google maps and Live search it is working with no flaws. I have had a few more lock ups than usual but everything else is good. I love the slimmed down ROM. It saves me a lot of time going through and installing all my hacks. All we need is the Office app back.

IdiotforTrying on February 5th, 2008, 6:40 pm

Brian,

You said you downgraded to 6.0. How did you do that? I think I need to because it would seem that my direct push from my exchange server does not work. Also, does anyone know of any GPS software that is cheap or free? I like google maps, but there has to be something out there with more features.

Michael on February 6th, 2008, 8:59 am

This is NOT GPSone! THis is full stand-alone gps. You do not need a “tower-signal” for this to work.

All of you, guys, are really amazing. This post is less than incredible. Not only for the information that you have provide on it; but because this has shows me that this cellphone is not bad as someothers has posted in other forums. I’ll explain: I try some of the options to upgrade the software on my device (It doesn’t matter the carrier for the point I want to prove). The thing is that after the upgrade my device stops at the HTC Logo. I tried a couple of things, but I thought that I lose it forever. However using the tricky Power+Camera=Bootloader, I brought it back from the dead. My point is: not all smartphone devices supports all this hacking thing. I have seen cellphones turned unusable, suddenly after an updating/upgrading process. So good is this device as all of you guys that bring to the rest of us, your knowledge just to help people. THANKS.

Just wondering if the Rev.A is working well on the Mogul with this update? I Heard with this update that it did not work and even slowed down, Also is Vista the major drawback to this update? I heard that it could be the cause of the bricking of the phone.

You can add Sprint Music Store back, you need to install a few things… Post a note in the Titan GPS thread linked below and we’ll whip up a quick how-to:

although I can now see the gps, I still cant use it.

Also, it has fixed the “Fake Ring” issue with Telus….

Brian S. on February 11th, 2008, 5:39 am

I got it to work on my XV6800. The spot where it hung on the carrier screen scared the hell out of me, but after re-reading the directions, and actually following them, everything worked great!

VZW users will have to call VZW to get a new Authentication Key. 800-922-0204, and press 3 for technical support. Obviously don’t mention that you upgraded your ROM, tell them that you just did a hard reset on the phone, and that you’re getting the message you should be hearing when you try to place a call. They’ll give you another Authentication Key and then it will work like it should. Phone, PDA, GPS. It’s beautiful!

Up yours VZW and VZ Navigator! Now I don’t have to switch to AT&T.

Many on February 11th, 2008, 1:27 pm

Hey brian,

Dont take the downgrade package from that other guy! If you want a simple solution to fix your problem you re gona do this:

Download a file called: titan_exitbl… That file allows you to exit bootloader and the device will load normally. I had the exact same problem with my p4000 and it solved it within 1 sec!

Than install the rom radio 3.27 update.

Your unit will probably not boot after the update…it will stop at the telus verizon sprint,… logo and wont turn on…

Press power camera and soft reset to get it to open bootloader. Install DCD’s 2.2.6 rom update and voila youre unit is going to work fine after with gps and rev a..!

Just so you know you need to go and deactivate the usb connection in active sync in order to have any of these updates to work in the 3 color screen!

If you need the files give me your e-mail I can send them to you or maybe post links here…

s10onn2o on February 11th, 2008, 2:33 pm

he also needs office put back in and also if the bootload is already updated and unlocked he wont need the exitbl

Christopher Price on February 11th, 2008, 6:11 pm

To type in the A-Key, go to /Windows/EPST.exe

Click Edit and type in 000000 for the lock code.

Click on the soft key and go to A-Key and tap-hold the field until you can chose Edit.

s10onn2o on February 11th, 2008, 6:28 pm

for the xv6800 just a shortcut you can bring up your phone and put in ##778 then hit send,
just choose edit when it ask you,

Note 000000 are six zeros
and the akey will not show when you open the fieldbox this will always happen it just so no one else can steal your phone and use the akey :)

s10onn2o on February 11th, 2008, 6:30 pm

i forgot that everthing is the same that chris said in the post above after you select edit.

OK, for everybody that freaks out over some of the features that are missing when they do the hard SPL install, here is how to reverse it and get your phone back to stock ROM…I know several peeps on here asked about is but it was never addressed…

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=12041

after you do this, go to the HTC page and download the software upgrade for your carrier…

for all you untechies out there the procedure is called relocking the ROM…I did it and got mine back to stock.

Not to knock the upgrade on this page, I just chose to wait until Sprint released the upgrade…i like all the little BS items like music store and such…

I have the Mogul PPC-6800. My phone has been stuck on the HTC screen for hours. My problem is just like the other guy. I REALLLLLLY need someone to help me get my phone to at least operate. Is there anyway I can undo what I’ve done ?

Christopher Price on February 13th, 2008, 11:27 am

You need to re-read the instructions, as you probably did not go into Bootloader mode and flash the Radio. This is 99% of the time the reason why things are being frozen during the update.

Go into Bootloader mode and flash the radio. If you are still having issues, take the battery out, put it back in. Go into bootloader mode and re-flash the ROM and Radio once again.

Max on February 13th, 2008, 3:17 pm

Hello,
I tried this on xv6800 using automatic installer and active sync 4.5. Any ideas?

Nick on February 13th, 2008, 5:10 pm

I installed everything and got it to work. However, it takes FOREVER for my mogul to acquire gps satellites. I have a bluetooth gps reciever and a garmin nuvi, and they both acquire satellites in seconds. With my mogul, it takes10 minutes (sometimes more) to give me my position. Is there a way to improve this? If it’s going to work like this all the time, I don’t think the update is worth installing.

This is the WORST ROM update ever!!! i strongly recommend to wait for the official ROM Update for sprint users. If your a Sprint User you might have to go through painfully irritating process of reactivating your phone with a half wit customer service rep. and dont expect your phone to fully function as before. certain apps will take longer. downloading anything from the intenet freezes (software updates). Text continue to show as unread (annoying) haveyet to able to use any GPS functionalities! Just read above all concerns and problems ppl have had already. NOT WORTH THE HASSLE.
