The cover comes off but no card tray. Ordered one. Got it today. It won't go in. On one of the pages it shows inserting the card and doesn't show a tray. Are the new 3GS iPhone without the tray?

Have a new iPhone 3GS 16GB. Just has a plastic slot cover over the sim card slot. There is no software update to iPhone 3G that will block prepaid accounts. AT&T may be able to do that on their end, however, it's not likely that they would do so.

Yes, 2.1 works just fine with prepaid. When you purchase an iPhone 3G, you can simply insert a prepaid SIM card into it. Only first-generation iPhones need to be jailbroken to activate on prepaid.

Do not use ZiPhone. It is not compatible with firmware 2.1.
