The hobby of using a metal detector to search for undiscovered relics, coins or other rarities is one that spans the globe and attracts people from all walks of life.
With the HTC HD2, a curious developer has decided to demonstrate the hidden power of the device’s built-in compass to use as a rudimentary metal detector after taking up a challenge.
By no means is the Metal Detector app meant for in-depth use, as the compass that is built-in is nowhere near as powerful as the amplified coils and large magnets found in a Garrett or Fisher metal detector, but it does hint at the possibilities of alternate uses for the compass besides improved navigation.
The app itself is free and located here.
