PhoneNews.com can confirm that MetroPCS is planning to rollout EVDO data access in non-AWS markets beginning at the end of this month with the launch of the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8330, which will be an exclusive to Best Buy locations in Metro PCS markets with legacy CDMA band support (such as Miami, Orlando, Jacksonville, Dallas, Atlanta, Sacramento, San Francisco) on 800/1900 MHz.
The Curve is identical to the models found on Sprint and Verizon, and will also feature full BIS support for an additional $10 on top of the $50 rate plan.
The cost for the device is set at $449.99 according to the most recent roadmap with corporate locations and third-party dealers offering the device after the requisite training has been completed by both dealers and techs, with customer issues to be handled by Best Buy until the device launches through the direct store and dealer network later on in the year.
AWS markets will not be carrying the Curve as it does not feature the necessary support for CDMA AWS 1700 with no word on availability outside legacy markets.

That should get the IDEN Curve on Boost all the sooner then

MetroPCS does not have EVDO, nor do they have plans to launch it. They may carry a Blackberry but it will be on 1x.
“Nice But Wrong”:
Incorrect. Try again. Metro offers EvDO in certain regions.
Nice But Wrong
I covered this almost two years ago:
http://www.phonenews.com/metropcs-to-upgrade-and-launch-new-markets-with-evdo-service-2480/
Read harder, please.
That’s all the more reason for to bring out the IDEN Curve
Well, you can put a Curve 8350i on Boost service, you just can’t access the BlackBerry Messenger Service. And, SMS Messaging doesn’t work well (speaking from experience using the 7250 on Boost in the past).
Considering that Boost is already cutting profit margins quite thin to do the $50/month Unlimited Plan, I suspect they’ll avoid offering the Curve on Boost for at least the short term. It would require adding to the price-point for just the Curve, and in doing so, make MetroPCS service appear more attractive. Not to mention that MetroPCS has EVDO data, the Curve 8350i is sorely lacking in that department.
Knowing how Boost picks products, I suspect they are waiting for Motorola’s iDEN messaging handsets to fill that void on Boost, encouraging customers to migrate back to Sprint for the iDEN BlackBerry… Boost has had many chances to pick up BlackBerry in the past, and they’ve continued to ignore the market potential. MetroPCS, on the other hand, had to build out the BlackBerry server support (Boost could have easily tapped Nextel’s existing servers, making the burden much less on their part).
Makes sense, I see them adding a $15-$25 BIS fee, charging the same or $50 less than MetroPCS and letting it ride

Hey Humberto,
Where can I get more info about this subject ?
Can I ask where did you get the information and how reliable is to become a fact ?
I don’t mean to discredit you I just want to believe this is for real since I have heard this in so many forums in the past.
Thank you for any input.
Metro is also launching a touch screen phone next month in GA it is out in FL already..
i live in FL and i havent seen any touch screen phone in metro pcs
I went 2 metro 2day and they say the touchscreen phone is comin out at the end of march its not out yet. And since u kno so damn much what is the brand and model of this phone? bcuz they havent release dat much info 2 us
It could very well be the Huawei model we found at CES:
http://www.phonenews.com/ces-huawei-shows-off-touch-cdma-phone-6230/
Or, Samsung may have taken one of their Instinct-alikes and ported it to MetroPCS.
The touch screen for metro will be a Samsung Finesse (it’s the same as Samsung Delve but AWS capable). A motorola touchscreen is also coming out. A non touchscreen phone that looks nice for MetroPCS will be the Motorola Hint (already offered by Alltel)
Also I believe there’s a rumor of another Samsung Touchscreen based off the Samsung Omnia… but I’m not 100% certain on that.
And the release dates for the touchscreens are late March to early April. The Motorola Hint is late February to early March.
What date exactly is the Blackberry coming out in Georgia anyone know? (Atlanta)
Has anyone been to the corporate stores of MetroPCS to see or hear of any business like phones
viz. Blackberry, Palm, Omnia, HTC touch?
Thanks
When will orlando market get the evdo Data for the black berry service
does anyone know when the blackberry curve for metro pcs will be released? Live in the sf bayarea need to know
I live in San Francisco.
I have needed a new phone since Aug of 2008. I heard way back then by a service agent at an offical METRO store that they were already testing a PDA (which is what i want to get). Since then, everytime i go in i ask for updates on the status of any kind of advanced phone (effective scheduler, internet/email ECT). I went in last week to an official store to buy a new phone – needless to say, it litterally hanging on a cord. Knowing my wants she suggested that i wait until the end of March to purchase a new phone. She mentioned that a samsung touchscreen will come out (the specific model she did state but i cannot remember). She did however, tell me that it was the same touch screen available through T-Mobile – which i now cannot seem to find on t-mobiles website.
In conclusion: This is merely a comment. Maybe the chick i was speaking with didn’t really know what she was talking about. But i have been told EVERYTIME i have went in to an official store that the PDA/Touchscreen will be coming out at the end of MARCH. She assured me one week ago that the testing has been completed and has passed and just has a little more red tape to pass through before it gets to us. Whether its a PDA or touchscreen i don’t know. But i have only heard of a SAMSUNG coming out – by the four service representitives i have asked. Never a blackberry or anyother brand.
THIS IS ALL I KNOW. I have never been on this website, but like you -more than likely- i stumbled upon it trying to find more information. It seems that i may have heard a little more than people in my area. I hope this information helps.
And also; ASK!! everytime you pay your bill in an official store or call Metro. They have to tell you. I’m not saying that anyone isn’t, cause i’m sure like me, all of you are. Be sure to get yourself updates though.. It seems that metro isn’t too big on introducing new things when all of us want it; They wait and want you to sck.
I asked a customer rep on the phone if metro was coming out with a smartphone, and he replied “yes. A Blackberry will be released in April.” He didn’t elaborate as to the model or anything.
P.S. I live in FarNorCal. By Redding, CA
The curve blackberry phone is hitting the market at the end of Feb,March.. it will be only at Best Buy.. Maybe it will roll out to all other stores in April 2009
I would like to know when the metro blackberry are coming to the miami forlaudale area.
thanks
No boost is not getting it all sooner.. Metro Pcs is the Way To Go… Tried Boost No good…
Metro Pcs is Best in NO CONTRACTS & But Beeter Yet BETTER PLANS THAN AT&T AND BOOST !
Sorry Go METRO PCS!! IM GETTING THE BLACKBERRY FOR M/PCS!
Does any of the forum moderators know more info about the main subject ???
Is the blackberry still going to be avaliable anytime soon for metro pcs ??
Thank you.
As a MetroPCS employee, I can confirm that MetroPCS will be offering…in most markets… a Blackberry Phone during the second QTR of ’09. This was announced in yesterday’s (2/26/09) earnings conference call. The Blackberry unlimited data plan will (most likely) be an additional $5~$10/month depending on the service plan you choose.
In addition, MetroPCS will also begin offering highspeed LTE service by the end of the year. System upgrades are already taking place.
Metro Employee, are you sure that Metro is in fact conducting cellsite upgrades to LTE? I live in the DFW area and keep in touch with a lot of contractors that do the field installs, and I’ve heard nothing to the effect that Metro has begin zoning or even preliminary site selection for LTE equipment installation or backhaul upgrades.
Everything I’ve been told from engineers and internal lab testers indicates that LTE is getting pushed back a year due to a lack of immediate capital for network investment
Metro employee or Humbero,
When will the blackberry or the motorola hint be out…..
Mac needs to offer the iPhone at other companies other than AT&T.
As metro employee stated, the BB is to release at Best Buy stores in the 2nd quarter of 2009 (that’s sometime in April, May or June). Except in the AWS markets.
Moto Hint is due out March 25th or so.
Moto Evoke is being released soon by Motorola, but not sure when Metro will pick it up. I know that at least one of the touchscreens is to be released with the Hint … https://direct-secure.motorola.com/hellomoto/us/qa4/registration.html
But no idea when it will hit metro. There are also the Huawei C7500 touchscreen and the Samsung Finesse (sch-r810) coming.
Some of you guys act like damn babies getting all emotional about some dumb phones. Believe me, when the new cool phones are released, you can best believe you will hear about it…Gosh…relax
I live in the Metro Detroit area of Michigan. Will the Blackberry Curve 8330 be available in my area, or only the areas listed in the article?
my sis works for metro (assistant manager) and she said the samsung instinct is coming out on the 3rd week of this month and its gonna be about $300 and some change. she said that he blackberry curve and the instinct is already in her system but it hasnt launched out yet. but she said for people to start going to corporate and check out the phones and see if its there cause your not gonna see it online on metropcs.com right now.
I work for MetroPCS in the Orlando market. The Motorla Hint will be released at the end of March, the Motorola Evoke is the touch-screen Motorola and will be released when New York and Boston open as a MetroPCS home network. The Samsung R810 Finesse is just an upgraded form of the Samsung R800 offered by US Cellular. Touch screen and expandable memory with an mp3 player and video technology. The Blackberry Curve will not be released until at least the 3rd quarter of 2009, if not later. It just went into testing with our Metro Corporate Rep. The BIS plan will be $10 added to the current $50 plan. For those that don’t need a touch screen, MetroPCS is also coming out with the Kyocera Neo. It’s a dumbed down version of the current Kyocera S4000 MAKO. Haven’t heard a woirk about the Huawei touch screen except that I believe it will not be a reliabe phone as all Huawei’s are pieces of crap.
Thats correct MetroPCS Orlando
The Motorola Hint (March 25 Launch)
Motorola Evoke
The Black Berry
Samsung R810
They are all in the system and ready to go..
What’s highspeed LTE, EVDO and AWS? Can anyone enlighten me on what these terms pertain to, or their accurate definitions?
Anyone there to answer my question?
AWS – The 1700 MHz of radio spectrum, reserved for Advanced Wireless Services
EVDO – Evolution-Data Optimized, an upgrade to CDMA networks that gives broadband-like internet access
LTE – Long Term Evolution, a 4G network platform that MetroPCS will be replacing CDMA with
Next time, please run a few quick Google searches. All of those acronyms could be found easily with searching online.
How long will it take for Metro to replace CDMA with LTE? Will we have to get new phones?
Eventually, yes you will have to get a new phone. But, that will be years after 2010. MetroPCS will keep the existing CDMA network active for years after they introduce LTE in an area.
It’s not known how long it will take for MetroPCS to roll out LTE… mostly because nobody has deployed LTE technology yet anywhere in the world. It’s an unproven technology at this point.
Awesome! Thanks! I’m going to get my Crackberry when it’s released to Best Buy next month. If you get it at Best Buy, you can get the jump on everyone else, who will have to wait till the 3Q.
Thank’s for the info Chris, BTW, didn’t have time to google, editing video.
Any of you guys have a date for the blackberry (metro pcs) release at best buy ?? I understand it will come out first at best buy and then at metro stores.
This will be a hit for sure.
Not an exact date. I’ve read anywhere from April up to May. I hope it’s sooner rather than later!
its supposed to hit best buy march 10th and the finesse march 29….third quarter release for the blackberry is retail stores and dealers
March 10?!!! Dear LORD in Heaven!!! I’ll have to beg someone to give me a ride to Best Buy on Tuesday. I can’t wait a week.

With regard to the Samsung sch-r810 “Finesse”, it may be a Delve on the inside, but Google the “Samsung Anycall Haptic (w-420/w-4200)” and you will see what it looks like on the outside. That phone was released in Korea as the iPhone killer. Not sure how well it’s done, but it hasn’t been released in the US. I don’t even know if it’s cdma cause I can’t find any specs on it and haven’t really tried to find out what service Korea has. But maybe Metro got a good deal on them from Samsung and is having them provisioned with a Delve-like crippled ui. The Behold has the same send/end keys, but the earpiece part of the phone is different.
Sorry about getting so emotional… but I do love my cell phone above all other digital devices.
Here is list of upcoming phones (not confirmed)
Kyocera Neo
Motorola Evoke
Motorola Hint ( being reprogrammed. Supposed to come out before April )
RIM Blackberry Curve
Samsung R810 Finesse (upgrade to the Delve. same body I think. Touchscreen)
Samsung Tint
I only now know that R810 will be coming near the end of March.
Info from Metropcshelp.com
blackberry curve 8330 is up on metropcs.com. $449.
Yeah, but they won’t actually sell it on their site for two or three weeks and the damn Best Buys only carry three Blackberries each. What kind of marketing madness is this?
does anyone know when the moto hint is coming to miami? thank you
The samsung finesse will be in stores on the last week of march. I have also heard that metropcs and verizon are suppose to go on a 4g network(LTE) by the end on 2009. No other carrier is going to have this network
The motorola evoke is not going to hit the market, It did come out but was recalled by metropcs cause of to many issuses with the handset. I have heard that it will be relaunched but a date is still not set.
Bert, do you know of any other blackberry devices coming up to metro pcs ?
Metro’s EVDO access leaves much to be desired. I get frequent data outages to the point where pages won’t load and messages won’t send, forcing me to pull the battery. I hope this is temporary.
Will the finesse have metroweb?
omegawolf747 what market are you in? I’m in Atlanta and it’s been great, I even get higher DL speeds than my AT&T 3G data at times.
I’m in the Detroit market. It hasn’t been as good here, unfortunately. I’m on 1x most of the time, not EVDO. Even when I have sufficient speed, web surfing is often painfully slow, sometimes non-existent. I experience frequent delays in sending texts and emails and am frequently logged off my IM programs.
I’ve heard through the grapevine that Metro is supposed to start working on Detroit area problems tonight.
samsung finesse will have metroweb, it has memory card slot, you can also play movies in it. If you guys want to get an idea of this touchscreen look at the instict from sprint. It is a similar phone.
Metro Pcs will eventually have more blackberry’s coming out. They are going to have a huweai touchscreen about october or november. For metro it’s all about competeing with sprint, verizon, tmobile and at&t.
hello… does anybody know when the blackberry curve will be released in new york????? im si tried of this messanger phone..lol
uhhhh the blackberry was already released here in texas idk about new york though. i have the black MESSAGER an i cant wait to upgrade to the Finesse i just got the messager in aug when it was realased too.
samsung skimped out when they made the messager thats why im upgrading. my keyboard is cracking like litterally
The Samsung Finesse is on the Metro website.
Samsung finesse is available for purchase online, but not in Redding, Ca stores until next week. I’m sad. I want one now dang it. $349 is not too bad either.
it’s funny, they had the finesse available for purchase online on monday. Now it says in stores only, LOL
I just bought the Finesse yesterday and I think I’m in love.
The Finesse is functionally similar to the Samsung Delve for Alltel and the Instinct for Sprint. Like the Delve, it has Samsung’s widget-based TouchWiz interface, though it isn’t a smart phone. The phone has a 3″, 240×400 touch screen and a 2-megapixel camera. It’s capable of running on 3G networks, though MetroPCS’s 3G rollout is spotty so far.
have anybody bought the blackberry curve for Metro PCS Yet? if so how is it please let me know thanks
I have. Coverage has been spotty with frequent data outages, ie phone calls and text messaging would work, but Internet, push email and IM would be disabled until resetting the connection. It’s been better the last couple days though.
Aside from network problems, the phone itself rocks, as I knew it would!
would you reccomend anyone to buy the metro blackberry?
Overall, I’ve had a good time with this phone. I’d say buy it, but be prepared to deal with infrequent data outages (at least in SE Michigan) and familiarize yourself with going into the connection manager to disable and reenable the connection to get your data service back.
hopefully it will work for me i live in northern california and have been waiting for them to get a pda phone. Will the blackberry curve 8330 for sprint work with metro yet?
From my understanding, if you flash a phone from another carrier over to Metro, it’s only good for phone calls and texting. Data won’t work.
well that sucks but im still going to buy this phone i just hope it works out cause 450 is alot for a phone
I got a finesse and I love it. I got the mission impossible trilogy with it. I have since gone online and downloaded some videos onto a microsd card and they work great. I also love the handwriting text messaging. Yes, you can literally write a note with the provided stylus and it will translate into typed text message. frickin sweet!!!
Which website is best to use for downloading movies onto a microsd card and how many GB should the card be.
the card that came with my finesse is only a 2gb card. It holds three movies on it. As far as websites I don’t know.
for the blackberry curve for metro can you watch you tube videos on it?
does anybody know if you can watch internet videos with the finesse? I have one now and it won’t play youtube or any other videos on the web. Internet is extremely slow. The phone itself is pretty cool though.
I’ve had the curve since it’s release with metro. I love it. I also found a way to convert all video to a format that can be viewed on the curve as well as on my old motorola rockr. Download a program called Format Factory. It’s the hottest. I also bought an 8G microSD card from microcenter for $20. The only thing I haven’t figured out how to do is get streaming radio on my curve. Apparently the carrier is the problem. Youtube videos cannot be viewed because the format is not supported by the technology on the phone not the carrier.
For radio, have you tried iheartradio and Pandora, both available on BlackBerry’s File World app?
As for the videos, it’s likely because YouTube videos are FLV and the Berry can only play AVI and 3GP.
no they dont play on the finesse. i have one. nice but slow internet
To my knowledge, Metro still doesn’t flash Blackberry’s. It wouldn’t make sense to flash a BB with Metro because all you can do is talk and text. No data, no picture messages, no video, no email..no internet. What would be the point?
Besides, why would they flash other carriers’ Berries now that they have their own?
That’s a simple question to answer. One of the largest problems for MetroPCS is device cost. Paying full retail is a large barrier to entry.
If MetroPCS could “flash BlackBerries” to MetroPCS, they would.
The problem is that BlackBerry devices work much differently than your standard CDMA phone. They have lots of security protection layers to encrypt data (which, is why they’re loved so much by corporations). It also means that hacking them to work on another carrier is much more difficult in many cases, mostly on the CDMA side of things.
Ummm…Its April 16th. I live in New York Ctiy. I still have my blackberry with my tmobile account but I also bought a melo phone from Metro on April 6th because he said I couldnt switch my bb from tmobile and he said they wont have it anytime soon. Does anyone know when the BB will be hitting New York?
No Metro Berry in AWS cities.
FYI for those of you who are looking to place the BB 8350i on Boost, it’s actually quite possible. All you would need is to download the servicebooks for nextel which can be found on http://www.crackberry.com. It’s actually quite simple, I’m a Sprint/NEXTEL Tech support rep, and I myself have boost due to the fact that our emp plans suck. I found it to be more economical to just get boost and I use my 8350i on it. The only thing that would not be available would be the BB email address… what I mean by that is; everytime someone buys a BB most companies will require for you to get a BB plan, and within that plan it includes a personalized email address that you setup just for your phone. EX: if you have Nextel/Sprint your email will be (USERNAME@Sprint.Blackberry.net) Tmobile(USERNAME@Tmo.Blackberry.net) ATT (USERNAME@ATT.Blackberry.net) and so on and so forth… QUESTIONS? Please email me at neonplatinum@msn.com THANKS
FYI if the email is a very big thing for you, then you also have the option to use BoostMobiles email address which would come straight to your phone that would be EX: 6465551212@myboostmobile.com, and you would receive the email as a text.
If I already have a verizon blackberry curve 8330 can it be flashed with the internet and pic messaging for metro? Or are they only allowing THEIR blackberrys? PLEASE LET ME KNOW..i am using an older version of blackberry with metro n have no access to web..and would like to upgrade;)
OH and……will METRO stores be able to flash the 8330′s or only ceratin dealers? I recently bought an 8330 from ebay..but will it work with web now for metro?????????
MarieKccBerry, at this time MetroPCS cannot flash any BlackBerry to MetroPCS service. The only BlackBerries that will work on MetroPCS, are the ones sold by MetroPCS directly.
As noted above, this is because of the security protocols that BlackBerry uses. They are much stronger than a typical phone, making it impossible for the MetroFLASH service to modify them for MetroPCS service.
I have a blackberry curve from Verizon but Metro service..IS there any way to get my phone flashed? I know Metro can’t do it, but is there another way? Please let me know!
yes all blackberry phones can be flashed metro want do because they will lose money outside dealers do it all the time i have the curve with internet and pic mail all i lost was the pin texting from bb to bb
And yes im with metro flash ant phone thats with sprint verizon only cannot flash tmobile or at&t for more info email me at brownboy0000@yahoo.com
i have an old blackberry pearl 8130 from when i was with att. can that be flashed to metro pcs service? i know they now offer the curve, i was just wondeing if for a charge they could just use the phone i already have?
You could, but it would only support voice calls and text messaging. There would be no data (Web, MMS, IM, email), which is sorta the point of having a BlackBerry.
I was wondering if anyone knew if a Blackberry Curve 8310 from AT&T could be activated with Metropcs. Please answer as soon as possible. Thanks.
Hi, I was wondering if a Blackberry Curve 8310 from AT&T could be used in Metropcs. They told me that there was no way to flash or activate a phone with them if I had bought a phone from AT&T but I was wondering if you had any idea what so ever of how I could use it with Metropcs.
ATT uses GSM (SIM card) and MetroPCS uses CDMA (no SIM) meaning they use different technologies which are not compatible with each other. So the answer is no, you cannot use an ATT or T-Mobile (also GSM) phone on MetroPCS
Hi, I want know if i go to a state that sells the blackberry curve and activate it there keeping the service connected in that state but bring the phone back to NYC where i live, will all the features work on the phone once i get it here? Or will the phone work at all?
It won’t work in NYC because that’s an AWS market and the Berry is 1X/EVDO.
Hi!
Does anyone know when Metro PCS will debut the Blackberry 8330 here in New York City?
I am waiting paaaaaaaaaaaaatiently ……and I am hoping the bring the Blackberry to the Big Blackberry Apple really soon.
Any approx date would be great- OR any news at all- like maybe it will be here sometime now, in August ? or in the 3rd quarter??
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
They won’t because NYC is an AWS market and the Berry is CDMA.
Hi!
If i do get a metro berry in San Fran would i have problems calling to AWS areas, i.e. Boston, NYC?
You could call them. Any cell pone can call any other cell phone, no matter the technology used.
I contacted the Metro PCS headquarters and I asked about when the Blackberry was coming to NYC and they told me the Blackberry 8330 would be launched here next month in NYC in September 2009.
Then i went into a metro pcs store and asked the same thing and the metro guy told me they were launching the Blackberry 8330 next month in September.’
I am VERY Excited! So Maybe they fixed the towers or they were somehow able to get around the AWS/ CDMA problem.
So we will see what will happen in September! BRING on the Blackberry 8330 to the NYC market!!
That’s awesome! Maybe it’s a newer model that supports AWS.
it is october and it is not in nyc yet!
has anyone flashed the 8330 from sprint to metro pcs?
does anyone know if any of the unlocked blackberry’s that they sell on Ebay can be used in the Miami, Fl area with Metro. I know we have the new curve but i just saw a Storm for sale and it is an unlocked phone and they are saying it can be used with metro..can anyone help, I have a Bold and cant continue paying what I pay for a month but love the phone so I need to go back to Metro but would rather have a great blackberry …..please help with any info

mister219@optonline.net
does anyone know when the blackberry is hitting the nyc market for metro pcs
does anyone know if metro will be upgrading the blackberry anytime soon to a newer version
Wrong metro pcs will be going to a 4x network very soon, and the blackberry 8330 curve will work in non aws markets in june! I am a VIP in the Metro world so trust me!
I just went to Metro PCS store here in Cali to buy the Blackberry and they said that it has been discontinued! So I purchased a different phone. I am so bummed out! Does anyone know why they stopped making it for Metro? Was there problems with the phone and the carrier?
once metro upgrades to 4g will they upgrade to a newer model blackberry????
Primetime… does the Metro Blalckberry only work in some places? And it seems they have discontiuned them. Will they be putting one out again when they upgrade to a 4g network????
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I have a Samsung Code. I only get 1XRTT speeds. Is there a way I can access EV-DO?
The blackberry will work in NYC if the phone is activated in that area and with metropcs u can always update Ur PRL (Roaming) what that means is that u could use Ur phone outside Ur coverage area for free. No roaming charges apply. MetroPcs is overall a good provider.
