  • Nokia to Add Maps Feature to Ovi Platform

Nokia has announced plans to integrate its Maps application to its Ovi services portal with the intention to allow users to create their own maps and routes, complete with waypoints and markers that can be loaded onto compatible devices with the Nokia Maps application installed.

Interested users would navigate to the Ovi portal, create an account and browse map data for their particular region, while tagging specific routes and waypoints, saving them and downloading the data to their device, which currently only includes S60 handsets with internal GPS transceivers or A-GPS access, although Nokia has also announced a version of Nokia Maps for the Series 40 platform with no word on availability.

The service is expected to be launched later this summer with no word on whether the service will be free or a premium service.
