Apple's iPhone represents a significant paradigm shift in modern computing. It is the first mass-production phone in the United States to run a recompiled version of a desktop operating system (Mac OS X). iPhone also contributes the first multi-touch display, and offers an integrated full iPod player, combined with a groundbreaking accelerometer. In addition, iPhone breaks rank with traditional phones, offering a built-in full version of Safari (Apple's web browser for Mac OS X), which delivers full web pages as opposed to mobile-formatted pages. Finally, Apple's Mail offerings integrate traditional consumer email services (as well as Yahoo! push mail), as opposed to closed-platform systems such as BlackBerry and MS Direct Push.
[edit] Updates
Software Version 2.0.2: Various bug fixes. Install using iTunes > iPhone > Check for Updates...
[edit] Downloads/Links
iPhone Dev Center - Apple's official web development connection for the iPhone.
ZiPhone - Unlocks and activates iPhone for use on unsupported carriers. Apple does not support unlocking, and it may void your warranty. Use only if you wish to activate iPhone on another carrier than which it is intended.
PwnageTool - Jailbreak your iPhone 3G to enable third-party application support. (PhoneNews.com Mirror of PwnageTool 2.0.2 - Please do not link to this file directly...)
Mac Only
iJailbreak - Mac-only tool for jailbreaking. Jailbreaking an iPhone will allow for installation of third-party software, and can be reversed easily. This tool does not void your iPhone's warranty, and can also be used to activate iPhone on unsupported AT&T plans (prepaid and corporate-liable).
Disk for iPhone - Lets you mount your iPhone's media folders as a virtual hard disk. This allows you to quickly upload files and pictures to your iPhone for use.

[edit] Tips/Tricks/Hacks
Tip: Add iPhone to an existing GoPhone account
Visit this news article for details on how to add iPhone to a GoPhone Pick Your Plan account that was already created. You do not need this guide if you are setting up a new GoPhone account (you can do that inside of iTunes when activating your iPhone for the first time).
Tip: Force GoPhone in iTunes
By default, iTunes activation does not list GoPhone prepaid account plans unless you fail the credit check. To force this, enter 123-45-6789 as your social security number. This is a backdoor to access the GoPhone plans, and is recognized and accepted by AT&T.
Tip: Custom Ringtones
Mac users can make custom ringtones quickly and easily using the latest version of GarageBand. After updating, a new option will appear under File > Export that will allow you to save your sound track as an iPhone-compatible ringtone. For this to work, your GarageBand track must be 30 seconds or less... and it will auto-convert the format you have imported (MP3, AAC, etc).
