iPhone 3G is the second mobile phone from Apple. It builds on the original iPhone with tri-band UMTS/HSDPA, GPS, plastic backing, all-metal buttons, and a standardized headphone jack. In addition, iPhone 3G has longer battery life (when used on 2G networks).

Tips/Tricks/Hacks
Tip: Custom Ringtones
Mac users can make custom ringtones quickly and easily using the latest version of GarageBand. After updating, a new option will appear under File > Export that will allow you to save your sound track as an iPhone-compatible ringtone. For this to work, your GarageBand track must be 30 seconds or less... and it will auto-convert the format you have imported (MP3, AAC, etc).
Alternatively (for Windows users; this may work on other systems), you can make any AAC file into a ringtone. Simply convert any audio file into an AAC file (e.g. song.mid can be imported into iTunes and converted there to AAC)--ensure the song is less than 40 seconds long or iTunes won't sync it (try http://midi.mathewvp.com/midiTrim.htm to shorten a midi file before converting). Next find the file in the file system and change it from m4a file type to m4r (e.g. song.m4a to song.m4r). Drag the file into iTunes' ringtone section and add syncing for ringtones under your iPhone's sync settings.
Hack: Preserve Unlock Potential
The makers of PwnageTool have cautioned that updating to iPhone OS 2.2.1 will prevent the device from being SIM unlocked in the future. To avoid this problem, only update to version 2.2.1 by using PwnageTool. The application installs the firmware update in a manner that preserves the ability to SIM unlock the device.
