This page keeps track of the latest releases of firmware (commonly referred to by many companies as software) of the phones that they sell or have sold in the past. Phone updates can offer new functionality, fix hundreds of bugs, and improve phone reception all in one release! If you see a firmware update that is not listed, simply click the Edit button at the top of the page, and add it to the list.

The PRL (or Preferred Roaming List) contains important information about which towers your phone can use when roaming off-network. Keep this file up-to-date in order to get the best reception on-network and off. Most phones can have their PRL updated over-the-air. Just call *2 (from the phone you want updated) and ask to have your number flagged for a PRL update. If the rep you talk to doesn't know what that is, it's best to politely hang up and call back.

Note: Newer Sprint phones can have their PRL updated via "OMA" - which is short for "OMA-DM" or Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Device Management (DM), as opposed to the traditional *2 method. Most Sprint reps don't seem to know about "OMA", or don't know that they can use it to update a device's PRL. You might try mentioning it if the *2 method isn't working.

Motorola maintains a firmware tracker for their iDEN phones, as well as offers user-installable updates (Motorola iDEN Firmware). RIM also provides BlackBerry iDEN firmware updates through their web site.
