Samsung Instinct Receives Second Firmware Update

Members of the PhoneNews.com Forums have noted that the Samsung Instinct has received a second firmware update. Sprint employees in our forum have also posted the release notes for the update.

The Instinct has been heavily promoted for besting iPhone in the area of software updates. Not only does Instinct support Firmware Over The Air (FOTA), but each application automatically checks for software updates when it is launched. If an update is available, the user is prompted and immediately offered to install the update.

Software version BH29 focuses on wrapping up interface fixes, many of which were already addressed in the first firmware update. In addition, the firmware makes code improvements which are designed to speed up the web browser’s performance.

The update does require the installation of the first software update, BF30. However, those users on the original software version will be automatically guided through installing both updates, one after the other.

Does that mean the Instinct is FOTA and checks for updates for each app or the iPhone does?

Yes. Not the iPhone.

Update doesn’t really fix much. Phone is not really getting better–it is just moving sideways. The phone is just ok at this point. If anyone is on the fence about it, I’d suggest getting something else. By the time they fix the phone, it will be too late and the phone will be EOL.

Very happy with this latest update. The web is now how it should have been from the start. The full page option is very nice and i can now go to websites that caused the browser to crash on the old version. the panning and scolling has also inproved from the old version. Now only one more big update and the phone should be set. Then it will just need apps!

There is a list on another website’s forum that shows all the sites that do not work properly with the new browser. Anyone should check it out before getting too excited about the new browser. That said, Sprint has announced a new release for “mid October” that may add support for Opera. Once Opera is available, I doubt anyone will keep the existing browser.

What is the purpose of post saying the same thing as the article, I see that a lot here?

So seriously, is the Instinct a step up from a Palm Centro? I don’t use many of the software functions, such as MS word, excel, etc., and I don’t mind accessing email through internet. I don’t really need one-touch email or whatever it’s called.

I have Sprint and I don’t anticipate dropping them anytime soon.

Don, what you’re seeing is called a Trackback. Basically, newer-generation web publishing applications will post a comment on the linked site, noting that they cited the original article.

Because we use WordPress, any time someone else using WordPress (or Blogger, TypePad, etc) links to us, we get a comment tracking back to our article. That’s why it’s called a TrackBack.

Some publishing programs separate Trackbacks, and some don’t. Ours treats them as a standard comment.

You’re seeing a lot of them, well, because a lot of sites link to us :)
