Sprint and Verizon have begun circulating internal memos stating that the launch of the respective versions of the BlackBerry Curve have been pushed back due to software issues, contradicting Sprint’s earlier response stating an April launch was still on track and delaying Verizon’s expected launch on May 9th.
The problem has been pinpointed to a bug in firmware that causes the device to freeze and lock up after using data-intensive applications after only seven minutes of use, though it is not known if the Alltel version suffers from the same bug despite having identical hardware and software to both forthcoming versions on the aforementioned carriers.

The Alltel version was launched May 1st and there is no known issue of freezing. Funny, but I heard from RIM rep that Alltel was going to launch Curve before Sprint or Verizon in mid April.

I didn’t see it listed and calls to various local corporate stores are yielding the new date. Until Verizon launches or decides to release a statement to the media regarding the issue, the article will stand.
