Sprint HTC Mogul Beta Leaks, Windows Mobile 6.1 and Sprint TV Added

PhoneNews.com has obtained the latest beta for the Sprint HTC Mogul. The update adds both Windows Mobile 6.1 and Sprint TV.

While Windows Mobile 6.1 was previously announced for the device by HTC, the addition of Sprint TV is a new feature for the Mogul. Previously, the HTC Touch carried Sprint TV, but Mogul was left absent. With this update, there will finally be a Sprint smart device that offers both Sprint Navigation and Sprint TV, as well as Sprint Music.

We do caution users that this is a beta release, and is not supported by HTC or Sprint. You can, however, download the latest official update to revert should you run into trouble.

You can find both current and beta Sprint Mogul updates exclusively on our Phone Encyclopedia, at the link below.

Does the update add MMS?

Christopher Price on May 14th, 2008, 11:09 am

Messaging only lists Text Messaging and Email… so I’d say that’s a no.

I don’t know where the rumor started that Sprint was going to add MMS to Windows Mobile. They’ve said quite the opposite actually. In their view (as with Apple’s view), that Email is the proper protocol for sending and receiving pictures on these high-end devices.

Your absolutely right Chris, I don’t know why these people cry about Sprint not adding MMS when Sprint themselves have stated that they will not add it to their Windows Mobile phones.

This is where the rumor started: http://www.buzzaboutwireless.com/cms/index.php?option=com_moderatedchat&chatid=12

It was a chat with Chief Marketing Officer John Garcia. Messages to note are those from “Steve” and “Will” regarding MMS on Blackberry and WinMo.

So this rumor has some serious credibility to it, as it’s coming from someone pretty high up in Sprint’s ranks. Basically guys, Sprint officially HAS said that both platforms ARE getting MMS.

But does anyone know if Internet Sharing is still included in this ROM upgrade?

Christopher Price on May 15th, 2008, 12:49 pm

Internet Sharing is included, but I had problems with it. It doesn’t work for me.

I don’t know if it’s a bug, or if it’s that Sprint has fixed the holes in the PAM Verification that have been in Mogul firmwares.

Ha, not only is this update old news, but it has been kitchen-ized (build your own rom out of it), and no2chem has already built an excellent custom rom based on it that is much faster and gives you almost 30mb of free ram on boot.

As far as MMS, yes, Sprint and Microsoft have announced that they are working on an MMS system to be included in the OS (not a third party app like ArcSoft). If you’re going to be a reporter, keep up to date!

This is almost as bad as when you didn’t give dcd credit for the GPS enabled rom of his you were hosting…

Hah! More like “links to stuff we got from PPCGeeks.com”

dishe on May 15th, 2008, 2:14 pm

Dude, its great that you’re helping fellow Titan users by publicizing this stuff, but you MUST GIVE CREDIT where CREDIT IS DUE.
The “exclusive stuff” you’re hosting comes from ppc-geeks, xda-developers, and who knows where else.

You want to host it yourself instead of linking directly?
Fine.
But at least give credit for it somewhere. You’re going to lose whatever credibility you’ve got left with the phone enthusiast types.

We received the ROM from an anonymous source. The ROM is a Sprint official test build, and was not created by PPCGeeks, or any other community web site.

I’m sorry if PPCGeeks posted a copy earlier, but there is no need to get angry over it. We aren’t obligated to give credit to another web site that also received a copy of the same build. Sprint made the build, and we cited that as such in the article.
