Sprint Indirectly Confirms QChat for 2008

In a press release today, Sprint has announced plans to use the Nextel Direct Connect brand to describe all QChat/Direct Connect/PowerSource push to talk phones throughout the line up starting next year.

This will be done by releasing a new lineup of compatible phones from Sprint’s handset manufacturers, leading to confirmation that Motorola will no longer be the sole provider of push to talk phones on Sprint.

Sprint also demonstrated the new Direct Connect service (QChat) and has confirmed new features such as streamlined group and online contact management, a single number for both standard phone calls and push to talk calls, one-button voicemail messages using push to talk, and the inclusion of EV-DO data access.
