Sprint Releases LG Rumor Update

Late yesterday, Sprint released the V06 Rumor update, which corrects the issues we have covered on PhoneNews.com, affecting the LG LX260 Rumor. Contrary to mis-reporting from others, this update was not available until late yesterday. To update your phone, go to Menu > Settings > Tools > Update Firmware

Fixed… they keep moving (and re-naming) that setting around, even on LG phones between models.

Call your local store, they may have the update on their in-store terminal already, and can install the update for you. Because this update addresses a critical issue, it should be offered at no charge to you.

Specifically request the update by the version number.

Do you know if there is a data charge if you update this from your phone?

Christopher Price on January 20th, 2008, 10:02 am

There is no data charge, even if you do not have a Vision data plan. The phone uses a special data session that avoids data charges for the update.

Thanks, the update worked for my phone!

Hi,
Does anyone know what will happen if the battery dies during this update?
Does it wipe or change any applications I have installed, or my data/contacts?
How big is the file that it will download, is there enough room on the phone for that?
How long will it take to run this update and can I use the phone during the update?

Thanks,
Ronen

The phone won’t let you update if the battery is low.
Applications and other user data will be preserved.
The phone reserves enough memory for the update. Don’t worry about it.
It will take 5 to 10 minutes, you will not be able to use the phone during the update.

Christopher, I bought the rumor last week and really like it but am getting worried about the problem of data erasing. I have talked with Sprint and was advised they have no software “fix” as of today. I went to “update firmware “on my phone and the indication was there was no update for the firmware. Do you supposed my phone had the “fix” already on it?
Thanks,
Pat
