Sprint Releases LG Rumor Update
Late yesterday, Sprint released the V06 Rumor update, which corrects the issues we have covered on PhoneNews.com, affecting the LG LX260 Rumor. Contrary to mis-reporting from others, this update was not available until late yesterday. To update your phone, go to Menu > Settings > Tools > Update Firmware

Acutally, go to Menu > Settings > Tools > Update Firmware
Fixed… they keep moving (and re-naming) that setting around, even on LG phones between models.
Well there back in stores today.

i’m gettng very agitated. every time i do it it says “server timeout” or some garbage like that.
Call your local store, they may have the update on their in-store terminal already, and can install the update for you. Because this update addresses a critical issue, it should be offered at no charge to you.
Specifically request the update by the version number.
Do you know if there is a data charge if you update this from your phone?
There is no data charge, even if you do not have a Vision data plan. The phone uses a special data session that avoids data charges for the update.
Thanks, the update worked for my phone!
Hi,
Does anyone know what will happen if the battery dies during this update?
Does it wipe or change any applications I have installed, or my data/contacts?
How big is the file that it will download, is there enough room on the phone for that?
How long will it take to run this update and can I use the phone during the update?
Thanks,
Ronen
The phone won’t let you update if the battery is low.
Applications and other user data will be preserved.
The phone reserves enough memory for the update. Don’t worry about it.
It will take 5 to 10 minutes, you will not be able to use the phone during the update.
Christopher, I bought the rumor last week and really like it but am getting worried about the problem of data erasing. I have talked with Sprint and was advised they have no software “fix” as of today. I went to “update firmware “on my phone and the indication was there was no update for the firmware. Do you supposed my phone had the “fix” already on it?
Thanks,
Pat

this phone rocksssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what happens when you update your phone? everytime i do it, it says that it’s already updated when i know it’s not.
Lay, you need to take your phone to a Sprint Store to get it updated. Over-the-air updates don’t always work.
If the store tries to charge you a $15 fee, remind them that it is supposed to be free for anyone that attempts to do an over-the-air update first, and it fails.
A couple of days ago my LG Rumor informed me that there was a firmware update and asked me if I wanted to install it. I plugged it in, answered yes, and walked away. When I came back an hour later, the phone was displaying the power-on screen (Rumor trademark and LG logo). About ever 10 seconds, it would go blank for a split second. I could not turn the phone off and it would not charge. Before I drove over to my local Sprint store to raise hell, I pulled the micro SD card, and all of the sudden I was presented with an update completed message! So I plugged the SD card back in and didn’t think anything more about it, until I tried to turn the phone back on this morning (having turned it off overnight). Same power-on screen, blinking off for a split second ever 10 seconds. Again, I couldn’t turn the phone off. Again, I pulled the SD card and the phone came up and found service. If you use a micro SD card in your LG Rumor, DON’T UPGRADE TO THE LATEST FIRMWARE unless you want to pull your micro SD card every time you turn your phone on. Common guys! Test it before you release it. (P.S. I’m a software engineer with 27 years of experience. Want some help with your micro-code?)
So if I were to upgrade to the version .09, I would have to to take my sd out ever power-up? Thanks sprint, but no thanks. There is a different type of update that is available that allows your phone to detect newer towers that have recently been built by sprint. Does anyone know the name of the update. I did it on my last celly but have forgotten since the name of the update. email me aggressivesk8ter2002@yahoo.com.

this guy doesnt know anything. you think everyone with a micro sd card ill have that issue?? STUPID. just cuz you do doesnt mean i did.
so today i got a notice from my phone to update it. I did and 30 minutes later it still hasnt updated. I tried taking the battery out and powering it back on but every time i try to the Rumor & LG logo pop up for 5 seconds, go blank, then pop up again.
what should i do?
My phone prompted me this morning (11-11-08) and the update appears to have been applied flawlessly. It also worked without incident on my wife’s Rumor.
What was the update for?
Thanks,
Dave
